Several Drama Desk nominees met the press today at the New York Marriott Marquis Manhattan Ballroom and BroadwayWorld was there to capture the event.

BroadwayCon has announced that Ben Cameron, Veanne Cox, Andrew Keenan-Bolger, Kyle Scatliffe, and Leigh Silverman have joined the Special Guest lineup for BroadwayCon 2018.

On Monday, May 8 the Theater People podcast welcomes Tony Award winner Gabriel Ebert. Ebert is currently starring alongside Harvey Fierstein in the critically acclaimed gay history play Gently Down the Stream which was written by Martin Sherrman (BENT, THE BOY FROM OZ). Gently Down the Stream plays at the Martinson Theater at The Public Theater through May 21st.

Just last night, A is For presented Broadway Acts for Women- a star-studded karaoke event hosted by Cecily Strong. The special event featured Emmy winner Martha Plimpton, Tony winner Michael Cerveris, Hamilton star Mandy Gonzalez, Hamilton star Brian D'Arcy James, Award winner Keith Carradine, Tony nominee Jenn Colella, Bronx Tale's Ariana DeBose, Noah Galvin & Tony nominee Rebecca Luker. Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers and commentators for media covering New York theatre announced today its award winners for the 2016-17 season in 27 categories.

Jenn Colella agrees that COME FROM AWAY is both a fun and important story to tell, which audiences remind her and the cast after 'every breath we take.' Audiences are also loving her performance as Beverley, which as earned her a Tony nomination for Featured Actress in a Musical. With great excitement, Seattle Repertory Theatre celebrates the multiple Tony Award, Drama Desk, Outer Critics, and Drama League Award nominations of the world-premiere production Come From Away, now playing the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre on Broadway.

Everything's coming up Tonys! Spring has sprung, awards season has begun, and the latter is all that really matters to Broadway fans everywhere. Earlier this week, Jane Krakowski and Christopher Jackson announced the 2017 Tony nominees, celebrating the best of the 2016-17 theatre season (and what a season it's been!). Topping this year's list is Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, which received twelve nominations, closely followed by Hello, Dolly! and Dear Evan Hansen- picking up ten and nine nods respectively. 

La Jolla Playhouse has announced that the world-premiere, Playhouse-born productions of Come From Away, featuring book, music and lyrics by David Hein and Irene Sankoff and direction by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, and Indecent, by Paula Vogel, have both received multiple Tony, Drama Desk, Drama League, Outer Critics Circle, Obie and Lucille Lortel Award nominations for their subsequent Broadway and/or Off-Broadway productions this season.

The New York Musical Festival (NYMF) announced today its final selections for 2017 NYMF. A series of developmental readings, invited productions, concerts and Beta Events will join the previously announced programming.

On Monday, May 1st Theater People podcast welcomes MISS SAIGON star Eva Noblezada. For the episode, Noblezada shares her story of being discovered by casting director Tara Rubin at the 2013 National High School Musical Theater Awards (AKA The Jimmy Awards) and being fast-tracked to audition for the West End revival of MISS SAIGON.

Earlier this morning, Laura Benanti (She Loves Me, Gypsy) and Javier Muñoz (Hamilton, In the Heights) announced the nominations for the 62nd Annual Drama Desk Awards.

The Outer Critics Circle, the organization of writers covering New York theatre for out-of-town newspapers, national publications and other media beyond Broadway, will welcome Danny Burstein and Jane Krakowski to announce the nominees for the 2016-17 season on Tuesday, April 25th (11AM) in the Oak Room at New York's renowned Algonquin Hotel (59 West 44th Street).
