Florida Theatrical Association (FTA) has announced the winners of the inaugural New Musical Discovery Series, a showcase for new musicals to be presented September 9 - 11, 2016, at The MEZZ and The Abbey in downtown Orlando.

The Off-Broadway show, Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, which opened on July 4, will end its current run on July 24 and plans to resume performances this fall.

Liberty: A Monumental New Musical plays at 42West (514 West 42nd) and will celebrate its opening on July 4th, 2016. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!

Broadway Records announced today that the Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording of Liberty: A Monumental New Musical, will be released on CD and digitally on Tuesday, May 5th. Abingdon Theatre Company presents a concert reading of MERTON OF THE MOVIES -- an uproarious new musical comedy set in the rollicking age of Keystone Cops, Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chaplin, and Buster Keaton -- with book by Donald Brenner, music and lyrics by Doug Katsaros, on Monday, December 8 at 7pm at the June Havoc Theatre (312 West 36th Street) in Manhattan. Donald Brenner, whose directorial credits include MARCH MADNESS and the upcoming MALLORCA at Abingdon, will direct.

Producers Theresa Wozunk and Timothy J. Harper announced today that 14 year-old actress, Abigail Shapiro will play the title role in Liberty: A Monumental New Musical. Directed by Evan Pappas, the new musical will play a limited seven-week engagement at Theatre 80 (80 St. Marks Place) Tuesday, October 14 through Tuesday, November 25, 2014. Tickets are now on sale.

Karen Carpenter, a producer, director and teacher, a theater-maker for more than 30 years, has been appointed the interim Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and the 34th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival. The Inge Festival is the Official Theater Festival of the State of Kansas, hosted on the campus of Independence Community College, which houses the William Inge archives.
