Ten first-time governors have been elected to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Board of Governors. In addition, eight incumbents have been reelected and one previous governor is returning to the board.
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Adds Costume Designers Branch

The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the creation of the Costume Designers Branch. Costume designers had previously been a part of the Designers Branch, which also includes production designers, art directors and set decorators. Academy Governor Jeffrey Kurland will transfer to the newly created branch and eventually be joined by two additional governors.

For Oscar fans who just can't seem to win their Oscar ballot pool because of that one craft category, Oscar.com today launched BEHIND THE BALLOT, a six-part video series exploring how Academy members view and ultimately determine who'll win Oscars for Production Design, Cinematography, Makeup & Hairstyling, Film Editing, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Costume Design.

Edward Zwick Wins Academy Board of Governors Election Run-Off

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that Edward Zwick has prevailed in the run-off for the open Directors Branch seat on the 2009-2010 Board of Governors; this will be his first term on the Board. Zwick will join Martha Coolidge and Curtis Hanson as the third governor representing the branch.
