ANTIGONE X Breathes New Life Into A Greek Classic At Cal Rep

California Repertory Company, the producing arm of the CSULB Theatre Arts Department, continues its spring season with Antigone X by LA-based writer Paula Cizmar. The show, directed by Artistic Director Jeff Janisheski, opens on March 23rd in the Studio Theatre.

The rehearsal room becomes a cultural crossroad with our own colonial past careening headlong into Black Lives Matter, Neo-Nazis, and the #MeToo movement. As colonial 20th century Africa bleeds into 21st century America, we start to wonder, can these students escape their own story?

California Repertory Company, part of the CSULB Theatre Arts Department, begins its spring season with Dreamers: Aqui y Alla, co-directed by Andrea Caban and Julie Granata-Hunicutt opening February 16th at the CSULB Studio Theater. This new play represents the stories of 800,000 Dreamers whose way of life has been threatened by the cancellation of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

Cal Rep Presents WOKE!: A REVOLUTIONARY CABARET

Song, dance, and poetry are crafted together by CSULB students in collaboration with Alexandra Billings and Joanne Gordon to create WOKE!: A Revolutionary Cabaret. WOKE! screams in protest to the policies, actions and words that seek to devalue and discriminate. Director Joanne Gordon said, We live in extremely challenging times. Our campus community feels under siege. WOKE! is our attempt to express our outrage, our passion, our hurt and our inspiration in the only way we know how by making theatre. WOKE! plays from November 2 - November 12 in the Studio Theater.

The Eugene O'Neill Theater Center announced today that Rachel Jett will take the reins of its undergraduate training program, the National Theater Institute (NTI) effective January 1, 2012, replacing Jeff Janisheski, who has led the program as Artistic Director since summer 2008. A national search for a permanent replacement will be conducted in spring 2012, to be completed in early summer.

On Tuesdays at 8 pm, June 29 through July 27, Theatermakers students will present three original one-act plays created within an intensive period of development. Each week's set of plays will follow a given theme or prompt, such as Dream Play, Adaptations, Modern Greek Tragedy.

More than 250 Eugene O'Neill Theater Center alumni gathered at The Players Club in New York City on Monday evening, February 1 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the O'Neill's National Theater Institute. Joining the party were alumni from NTI and its Moscow Art Theater Semester and Theatermakers programs, as well as alumni from the O'Neill's renowned summer Conferences: National Playwrights Conference, National Music Theater Conference, National Puppetry Conference, Cabaret & Performance Conference and National Critics Institute.
