Bauhaus' member Kevin Haskins will be releasing 'Bauhaus – Undead: The Visual History and Legacy of Bauhaus' on March 16via Cleopatra Records. While this is an elegant and tasteful deluxe coffee table art book, it is also a historical and intimate trip through the development of this groundbreaking band from the perspective and memorabilia of one of the quartet's founding members.

The sheer breadth of material from the 1950's to the 1990's covered in TELL ME SOMETHIN' GOOD is just staggering. With the inclusion of over 60 tunes, Ron Himes has conceived a revue that plays like a musical history lesson, transporting us back to the humble beginnings of R&B, and revealing the lasting impact that these songs have made. The Black Rep opens their season with a classic from their repertoire, and it features an enthusiastic and talented cast that are perfectly capable of recreating these vintage numbers for a new generation to enjoy.
Parents often ask me where they can find 'family-friendly' shows to see, and judging by the small audience in attendance at the Edison Theatre for the Black Rep's terrific production of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND (by the award-winning duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty), they're unaware of the wonderful works that are out there just aching to be discovered. This fairytale (hence the play in the title on the standard 'Once upon a time' opening you often find in those types of stories) is simply delightful, and filled with a slew of catchy Caribbean-influenced songs that make up the score. I think it's truly a crime that this under-appreciated presentation is coming to a close this weekend, and I challenge anyone reading this review to get out and see it. You will certainly not be disappointed, in fact, you'll probably fall in love with it in the same way that my son and I did.
New York-New York Hotel & Casino and Nine Fine Irishmen raised more than $112,000 for the St. Baldrick's Foundation this past Saturday, March 1, tripling last year's amount. Guests came out to show their support and cheer on fellow head-shavers in barber chairs at the property's new outdoor plaza on the Brooklyn Bridge. All of the proceeds raised benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation and will go toward childhood cancer research.
