Jaime Martín Conducts West Coast Premiere Of VOY A DORMIR

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) Music Director Designate Jaime Martin makes his only appearance this season on LACO's Orchestral Series when he conducts the West Coast premiere of the LACO-co-commissioned song cycle Voy a Dormir by Bryce Dessner, known to many as a guitarist with Grammy Award-winning alternative rock band The National and one of the most sought-after composers of his generation, on Saturday, April 27, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre, and Sunday, April 28, 2019, 7 pm, at Royce Hall. Dessner's work was written for and features Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Kelley O'Connor, who is also spotlighted in Mozart's Requiem with soprano Sarah Shafer, tenor Thomas Cooley, bass Dashon Burton and the USC Thornton Chamber Singers. Martin begins his tenure with LACO in the 2019-20 season.

National Comedy Center Officially Designated As The United States' Cultural Institution Dedicated To Comedy

The National Comedy Center was formally designated as the nation's official cultural institution dedicated to the art form of comedy on Tuesday, March 12. In a tremendous bi-partisan show of support, both the Senate and House of Representatives passed this bill in February, and the president signed it into law on Tuesday, recognizing the Center as the "Official National Comedy Center of the United States."

Tiffany Haddish to Present Jamie Masada with Rodney Respect Award at LACC Gala

The Los Angeles City College Foundation Gala, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of LACC, will take place on Tuesday, March 12th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and will have Tiffany Haddish present her mentor Laugh Factory founder Jamie Masada with the Rodney Respect Award.  CEO and founder of The Gilbert Group Dennis Gilbert and Englander, Knabe & Allen founder and CEO Harvey Englander will be honored with the Outstanding Alumni Award.  Actor/comedian Robert Wuhl will be hosting the event.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles (BBBSLA) will host its annual 'Accessories for Success' Scholarship Luncheon on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at the Beverly Wilshire, Beverly Hills. The fundraiser luncheon will honor Mike Daly, Producer-Songwriter and Executive Director of A&R and Music Publishing at Disney Music Group with the 'Excellence in Mentoring Award'. Marsh Berkeley Extends Hit Comedy THAT DON REED SHOW

The Marsh Berkeley announces the extension of That Don Reed Show created by acclaimed comedian/playwright, Theatre Bay Area (TBA) 2018 nominee, and 2016 TBA winner Don Reed. Saturday Night Live said Don was "too white," while the network executive for In Living Color said he wasn't "black enough." So Don created That Don Reed Show-his own sketch variety show-bringing Bay Area audiences an evening of irreverent sketches, edgy stand-up, music, and moving drama. That Don Reed Show, currently scheduled to close March 10, will be extended March 23 - April 28, 2019 with performances 8:30pm Saturdays and 5:30pm Sundays at The Marsh Berkeley, 2120 Allston Way, Berkeley.
