SHOWTIME has been nominated for seven NAACP Image Awards, led by five for the network's hit drama, THE CHI – including Outstanding Drama Series. THE CHI received more nominations than any other cable drama and tied for most nominations among dramas overall. Series creator and executive producer Lena Waithe earned a solo NAACP Image Award nomination for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series and shared in another with Dime Davis. SHOWTIME also received three acting nominations for Jason Mitchell and Alex R. Hibbert of THE CHI and Sanaa Lathan of THE AFFAIR. In addition, SHUT UP AND DRIBBLE, executive produced by LeBron James, was nominated for Outstanding Documentary (Television).

The nominees for the 50th NAACP Image Awards were exclusively announced today at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) TV One's joint press conference with Derrick Johnson, President and CEO of the NAACP and Alfred Liggins, Chairman and CEO of TV One. The winners will be revealed during the Two-Hour LIVE TV special airing on TV One on Saturday, March 30, 2019.

The 15th Annual Boulder International Film Festival (BIFF) is pleased to announce its full program of 55 films, including six films straight from this year's Sundance Film Festival, and six music documentaries, two of which will be the feature films on Opening and Closing nights. This year, BIFF features the following celebrity appearances: music legend David Crosby will be in-person on Opening Night to talk about his hot new documentary, David Crosby: Remember My Name; Golden Globe-nominated actor, writer, director and producer Emilio Estevez will participate in a Q&A after the screening of his film, The Public; and Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Jakob Dylan will be in the house on Closing Night to talk about the critically acclaimed music film, Echo In The Canyon.

The highly anticipated second season of the hit SHOWTIME drama THE CHI will premiere on Sunday, April 7 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Created and executive produced by Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Master of None) and executive produced by Academy Award(r), Emmy and Golden Globe(r) winner Common (Selma), THE CHI is a timely coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Epps. THE CHI averaged 4.5 million weekly viewers across platforms and ranks as the highest-rated SHOWTIME freshman series since BILLIONS in 2016. Celebrity rap battle series Drop the Mic and classic game show reboot Snoop Dogg Presents The Joker's Wild will return to television on Wednesday, January 23rd at 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. (ET/PT) respectively, on TNT. Both shows will encore the following night each week on TBS.

The nonprofit Sundance Institute announced today the showcase of new independent feature films selected across all categories for the 2019 Sundance Film Festival. The Festival hosts screenings in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort, from January 24 - February 3, 2019.

On Friday, July 6, THE CHI creator and executive producer Lena Waithe will headline a keynote conversation on the ESSENCE Empowerment Experience Stage and will later appear in the Great Hall to discuss THE CHI. All 500 fans who attend Waithe's Q&A at the Great Hall will receive $25 gift certificates to the SHOWTIME streaming service. On Saturday, July 7, BLACK MONDAY star Regina Hall returns to the Festival after the success of Girls Trip to debut the first footage from the highly anticipated new SHOWTIME comedy series exclusively for Essence Festival attendees, followed by a moderated Q&A. At the BLACK MONDAY conversation, SHOWTIME will give out 40 tickets to select fans for a meet and greet with Hall at the Fan Zone immediately following her Q&A. The debut season of BLACK MONDAY and season two of THE CHI will premiere on the network in 2019.

The 2018 American Black Film Festival (ABFF) wrapped another successful year of screenings, red carpet events, panels and competitions to a sold-out group of attendees. The event took place in Miami Beach, FL from June 13-17th.

In celebration of the nationwide release of Superfly, in theaters June 13, the 2018 American Black Film Festival (ABFF) will open with the festival's premiere screening of Sony Pictures' Superfly on that same night at the Fillmore Theater in Miami Beach, Florida. Directed by the acclaimed Director X, director of legendary music videos for such artists as Drake and Rihanna, and starring Trevor Jackson (“Grown-ish”), the film's original soundtrack has been curated and produced by Future, who also produces the film with Joel Silver (The Matrix trilogy, Die Hard).

Superfly – the film that helped define a genre in its characters, look, sound, and feel – is reimagined with Director X, director of legendary music videos (Drake, Rihanna), introducing it to a new generation. Last night, SHOWTIME kicked off the 2018 Emmy® season with its new one-hour drama series, THE CHI at the DGA in Los Angeles.

Oscar Nominee Mary J. Blige performs MIGHTY RIVER from the Netflix hit film MUDBOUND. Blige is nominated for co-writing MIGHTY RIVER and for her performance in the Netflix Academy Award nominated film.

SHOWTIME will celebrate SMILF, THE CHI and SHAMELESS at the South by Southwest® (SXSW®) Conference and Festivals from Thursday, March 15 through Saturday, March 17 with art, food and music at The SHOWTIME House at Clive Bar on Rainey Street in Austin, Texas. On Thursday, March 15, SHOWTIME will feature a diverse lineup of female-fronted bands across multiple genres including rising teenage indie rocker Snail Mail and experimental violinist and vocalist Sudan Archives, in honor of the Golden Globe® nominated comedy SMILF. Golden Globe nominee Frankie Shaw will make a special appearance introducing headliner Princess Nokia, whose music was also featured on the show. Friday, March 16 will be dedicated to the hit drama THE CHI, with food from Harold's Chicken Shack in Chicago, a custom sneaker gallery, Chicago graffiti art and featuring live hip hop artists. Chicago-based artist Joey Purp will perform, along with Lee Fields & the Expressions, whose music is featured on THE CHI. The night will culminate with a DJ set from RUN-DMC's Darryl DMC McDaniels, introduced by THE CHI star Jacob Latimore. And finally, on St. Patrick's Day, The SHOWTIME House will transform into an “Alibi Bar” pop up, where SXSW badge holders can party like a Gallagher with drinks served by SHAMELESS stars Shanola Hampton and Steve Howey. Musical acts include Low Cut Connie, Tank and The Bangas and headliners WAVVES.

Viewers will have the opportunity to catch up on the hit drama THE CHI when SHOWTIME airs mini marathons of the first four episodes on Sunday, February 4, starting at 12 p.m. ET/PT and 8 p.m. ET/PT. Created and executive produced by Emmy Award winner Lena Waithe (Master of None) and executive produced by Academy Award®, Emmy and Golden Globe® winner Common (Selma), THE CHI explores the humanity behind the headlines sensationalizing the South Side of Chicago. Ayanna FloydDavis (Empire, Hannibal) has signed on for season two as executive producer and showrunner. Produced by Fox 21 Television Studios, the series will go back into production in Chicago later this year.
