Elton John Documentary to Open Tribeca Film Festival, 4/20

The Tribeca Film Festival today announced that the world premiere of Cameron Crowe's documentary The Union will open the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by American Express. A performance by the film's subject - Elton John - will follow the free, outdoor screening to kick off the Festival's 10th edition and thank the New York City community for its ongoing support. The Union will premiere on Wednesday, April 20 at the North Cove at the World Financial Plaza. The 10th annual Tribeca Film Festival will take place from April 20 through May 1, 2011

Tribeca Film Institute Announces Partnership with Ford Foundation's JustFilms, Launches New Media Fund

The Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) today announced a long-term partnership with the Ford Foundation's JustFilms initiative and the launch of the Tribeca Film Institute New Media Fund. In a move that acknowledges the value of audience engagement, the $750,000 fund will provide support and funding to film projects which go beyond traditional screens - integrating film with content across newer media platforms, from video games and mobile apps to social networks and micro-blogging. All projects will activate audiences around issues of contemporary social justice and equality.

Robert De Niro and Paul Dino Join 'Another Night' Film

Another Night, the film based on Nick Flynn's memoir Another Bulls**t Night in Suck City, will star Robert De Niro as a homeless man looking for a place to stay and Paul Dano as his son who works at the shelter where his absent father shows up. The film, adapted and directed by Paul Weitz (who most recently directed Little Fockers), is in pre-production and has no slated release to date.

The threequel to the Meet the Fockers franchise, 'Little Fockers' will be released on December 22, 2010. As previously reported by BroadwayWorld, the newest edition to the Focker franchise is stage and screen vet Harvey Keitel (DEATH OF A SALESMAN, JERRY SPRINGER THE OPERA at Carnegie Hall). The movie will also feature the return of everyone's Focker favorites, including Ben Stiller, Teri Polo, Robert De Niro, Blythe Danner, and Owen Wilson. Additions to this newest installment also include Laura Dern and Jessica Alba. The movie will be directed by Paul Weitz for Universal and Tribeca Productions.

Critically-acclaimed musical theater singer and comedic cabaret artist Carly Ozard presents her new cabaret show Somebody to Love: My Musical Tribute To Freddie Mercury. Carly Ozard will be 'Queen For A Day', paying homage to her musical idol, and sharing historic and unknown facts about Mercury's public and personal lifestyle. Ms. Ozard new cabaret show will showcase popular songs from Queen's extensive repertoire, as well as perform solo work written by Freddie Mercury without Queen. Rare musical material and collaborations will be featured in this tribute to the rock tenor who flaunted his four-octave range, charmed his audiences, and lived his 45 years to the fullest. Ozard will be joined on stage by a three-piece combo along with special guest star Katya Smirnoff-Skyy. Musical Direction is by Joe Wicht. Somebody to Love: My Musical Tribute To Freddie Mercury will be performed for Two-Nights Only, Fri. & Sat. On Thursday, April 22, her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, in conjunction with the Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), will host the King Hussein Foundation (KHF) Media and Humanity Program at The Japan Society. The evening will include a screening of 'Budrus', the Award Winning Documentary film, a panel discussion moderated by CNN's chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour and featuring Avni, Bacha, and the Palestinian protagonist of the film, Ayed Morrar, along with MIT researcher, Nicole Argo. Finally, Queen Noor will award the annual King Hussein Leadership Prize at the Japan Society.

'Shrek Forever After' will open the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by American Express. 'Shrek Forever After' is the final chapter in the adventures of the beloved ogre, Shrek, and the first of the series to be presented in 3D. It is directed by Mike Mitchell and stars Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas. The premiere will take place on Wednesday, April 21 and the Festival will run through May 2.

The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival (TFF), presented by American Express, the Founding Sponsor of the Festival, today announced its remaining out-of-competition feature film selections in the Encounters, Discovery, Cinemania and Spotlight sections. The Festival will take place from April 21 to May 2, 2010 in lower Manhattan, offering audiences film screenings, conversations and an array of free community events. As previously announced, the 2010 film selection encompasses feature films from 38 different countries, including 45 World Premieres, 7 International Premieres, 14 North American Premieres, 6 U.S. Premieres and 12 New York Premieres.
