Bay Area Cabaret, devoted to presenting audiences with top performers who expand the definition of cabaret, enters its 11th season this fall with a sparkling lineup at the Fairmont San Francisco's historic Venetian Room. The new season features a star-studded lineup of performers making their Bay Area Cabaret debuts, as well as the return of a few favorites. The season kicks off on Saturday, September 27, 2014 with a tribute to songwriter Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell, Pocahontas, Enchanted, Prince of Egypt), starring Mr. Schwartz, SNL's Ana Gasteyer, Broadway's Liz Callaway and Michael McCorry Rose. The season continues November 2 with Tony winner Leslie Uggams (Hallelujah, Baby!, Beulah, Roots) and December 7 with Andrew Lloyd Webber protege and star of Broadway's Phantom of the Opera and Little Mermaid Sierra Boggess.

BroadwayWorld is excited to bring you the premiere episode of 'Songs from My Living Room'- a new series that goes into the home of one of today's most acclaimed contemporary songwriters, as he explains the stories behind his songs. The monthly series will feature special guests from all corners of the entertainment industry to help bring to life the music and lyrics of Scott Alan straight from his living room into yours.

On Sunday night, Birdland was proud to launch a new summer series, "Jane Monheit's Jazz Party," which will continue through September. The series provides Jane the opportunity to develop new material, and to collaborate with invited musical guests in a relaxed environment that is part concert, part jam session, part workshop and all fun. Since I attended more than 50 shows over the past eight months (a few more than once)--the large majority of which were reviewed on these web pages—I felt I had more than enough cabaret show inventory to present my second-annual “Mid-Year Cabaret Review” citing the “20 Best Cabaret Shows and Performances” for the first half of 2014. Since the eligibility period for 2014 BroadwayWorld New York Cabaret Award consideration begins with shows staged since last November (late October if it was the first of a run), I've included a few of those late 2013 shows in this group. And with the announcement of the BWW Award nominees just four months away, I've offered some projections on the Award categories for which these shows very well might receive consideration.

Just because the rest of the country will be spending Independence Day sipping drinks at the pool, pigging out at family barbeques, and enjoying the day off at home, doesn't mean Broadway will shut down for the holiday - the shows must go on!

Birdland Jazz Club is proud to present the launch of a new summer series, Jane Monheit's Jazz Party, on Sunday July 6 at 6PM. The series will provide Jane the opportunity to develop new material at Birdland and collaborate with invited musical guests, in a relaxed environment that is part concert, part jam session, part workshop and all fun.

On Monday, June 30, the Broadway at Birdland concert series presented multi-Grammy and Tony nominated composer Frank Wildhorn in his regular series called 'Frank & Friends.' This particular show, 'Girls Night Out!' found Frank onstage with Broadway leading ladies Jackie Burns (If/Then), Teal Wicks (Wicked), Adrienne Warren (Bring It On) and jazz vocalist Jane Monheit (Jane Monheit's Jazz Party at Birdland). There are still some spaces available in Usdan Center's special three-week season, which runs July 28 to August 15. Introduced last year, the program was so successful that it returns. Usdan, America pre-eminent summer arts day camp, has just begun its 47th season at its 200-acre woodland campus in the Huntington area of Long Island.
