Manhattan Theatre Club's hit production of THE ROYAL FAMILY, written by theatre legends George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber is currently playing its final week. The twice extended production, directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes will play its final performance on Sunday, December 13 at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street).

The Tony Awards Administration Committee met today for the first time this season to decide the eligibility of 10 Broadway productions for the 2010 American Theatre Wing's Tony Awards®, presented by The Broadway League and The American Theatre Wing. The Tony Awards Administration Committee will meet a total of four times throughout the 2009-2010 season to decide the eligibility for the 2010 Tony Awards.

PTP/NYC to Participate in Worldwide Tribute to Playwright Howard Barker, 10/21

Actors on four continents and in 18 countries will join together to perform the work of British playwright Howard Barker in an event called '21 for 21,' a celebration of the 21st birthday of Barker's theatre company, the Wrestling School, that will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Middlebury College affiliated PTP/NYC, an off-Broadway theatre company, will participate with its own sold-out production of Barker's 'Judith, a Parting from the Body' just a few days later on Oct. 26 at the Marianne Boesky Gallery in Chelsea. PTP/NYC co-director Richard Romagnoli will direct Jan Maxwell, Alex Draper and Stephanie Janssen in the production.

In the 1920s, George S. Kaufman was one of the primary reasons New York was firmly establishing itself as the nation's capital of wit. Until his death in 1961, Kaufman could be called the quintessential New Yorker; continually working on Broadway as a playwright and director, reluctantly venturing out to Hollywood on occasion and regretting every moment of it and frequently quoted for his crackling cleverness ('I understand your new play is full of single entendres.').

Lynne Meadow (Artistic Director) and Barry Grove (Executive Producer) are pleased to announce that due to popular demand, the Manhattan Theatre Club production of George S. Kaufman's and Edna Ferber's THE ROYAL FAMILY has been extended an additional two weeks at MTC's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47th Street). This marks the second extension for the production, which is directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes (Doubt, Mauritius). Tickets are now on sale through Sunday, December 13.

Tony Roberts, aged 69, 'took ill' on stage during this past Sunday's matinee of The Royal Family, resulting in the curtain coming down and the cancellation of the rest of the performance. An ambulance was called and Roberts has brought to the hospital, with no further word on his condition at the time. The actor was taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt the last update was that Roberts was in stable condition.
