BPA Announces 7th Annual Summertime Shakespeare Performance

BPA's 7th Annual Summertime Shakespeare performance offers a dramatic summer evening for all ages. Widely considered to be one of Shakespeare's finest comedies, As You Like It offers something for everyone: villainy, romance, humor and a happy ending. This adventurous tale from the Forest of Arden combines the flavor of Robin Hood with romance around every tree. It is a story of disguise and love triangles, and all of the confusion gets sorted out in the end.

Monograph Publishing and the University of Missouri Release Book About a Slave Who Started Schools for “Colored Children”

James Milton Turner was born a slave in 1839, and four years later his family gained their freedom. James' parents realized the value of a good education for their young son. However, there were no schools available during that time for colored children who were not even allowed to learn to read and write. A family friend, Reverend John Berry Meachum, secretly began to teach these young children in his church. Sometime later, Meachum discovered that there was no law restricting colored children from being taught on the river, so James attended school on a small steamboat anchored near St. Louis.

The experience with Hurricane Ivan and the knowledge of Hurricane Katrina impelled Milton to publish an informative disaster planning guide, titled Disaster Master Plan: Prepare Or Despair-It's Your Choice.

UK Tour of BIG THE MUSICAL Postponed

According to Whatsonstage.com, the February 14 run of Big -The Musical at the Liverpool Empire has been postponed. As previously reported, the European premiere of the Broadway show BIG - THE MUSICAL will star Tom Chambers, winner of BBC TV's Strictly Come Dancing, and star of Holby City and Waterloo Road, in the role made famous by Tom Hanks in the original feature film. Additional details regarding the postponement have not yet been announced.
