It really sounds like we should be cutting a ribbon somewhere to herald the start of the long weekend that kicks off summer, but instead we sit here in front of a computer screen, remembering and reminiscing, in hopes of providing you with something to read while you sit by the pool, waiting for the SPF37 to kick in!

Feeling the urge to let your imagination run wild, your spirit to soar or to just leave the world in which you live and go on an adventure? Sounds like a trip to the theater is in order! Luckily, companies all over the Volunteer State have been hard at work, creating new productions to transform and to transport, shows that will entertain you this summer. Jason Lewis directs the regional premiere of Reefer Madness the Musical to close out ACT 1's 2016-17 season, opening June 9. A musical satire based on the 1936 cult film classic, Reefer Madness the Musical opened in Los Angeles in 1998. The book and lyrics were written by Kevin Murphy with music by Dan Studney.

They're all on the hunt for Rachel Lindsay when the 13th edition of ABC's popular romance reality series “The Bachelorette” premieres on MONDAY, MAY 22, at a special time (9:00-11:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network.

The USM Department of Theatre and the USM School of Music present the Maine premiere of REEFER MADNESS The Musical, based on a book by Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney, with music by Dan Studney and lyrics by Kevin Murphy. The show runs from Friday, March 11 through Sunday, March 20, with 7:30 p.m. performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and 5 p.m. performances on Wednesday and Sunday. All performances take place on the Main Stage at Russell Hall, on the USM Gorham campus.

This week Connecticut Repertory Theatre will open a new adaptation of Lysistrata by Jen Wineman and the world premiere of Band of the Black Hand, a collaboration with Split Knuckle Theatre. CRT launched its season with Michael Bradford's Olives and Blood, a new play that had only been produced twice before.

The story focuses on two All-American and clean cut high school sweethearts Jimmy (Sean McGee) and Mary Lane (Taylor Beyer). They want to grow up together, have babies, lots of friends and end up happily ever after like their favorite couple “Romeo and Juliet” (a story in which they don't know the horrible ending). Well much like their favorite couple, they are pulled apart and struggle against the odds of being together. Jimmy, under the pretense that he's getting some jazz dance lessons, gets sucked into the lair of a reefer den and after one puff of what they have to offer; he becomes hooked and quickly abandons everything he knows. His fall from grace into a world of debauchery and sexual promiscuity brings on the mayhem as he struggles to choose between the hypnotizing Mary Jane, and his sweetheart Mary Lane.

The Connecticut Repertory Theatre (CRT) announces its 2014-15 Season, filled with classic comedies and challenging, engaging new work. The 2014-15 Season is full of characters in search of their identity. Their journeys explore the dramatic moments and decisions that allow for self-discovery.

The drama is based on the BBC BAFTA-award winning series from Peter Moffat and is to be adapted for HBOby Zaillian and Richard Price. The original series, set in New York City, followed a person through the justice system as they went on trial for murder. Turturro will portray Jack Stone, a downtrodden jailhouse attorney who frequents police stations for clients. There, he finds a client: Naz, an American-born Pakistani.

Director Dave Landis pulls no punches in this rigorous and elaborate show.

According to Deadline, Robert De Niro has signed on to replace the former SOPRANOS star in the seven-hour project, which Steven Zaillian had been working on bringing to the network with Gandolfini for the past four years.

HBO's President of Programming Michael Lombardo said that CRIMINAL JUSTICE, a pilot starring late actor James Gandolfini, will not air.

After passing on the series just two months ago, the premium cable network has reversed their original decision, and has ordered JUSTICE as a limited series of seven episodes, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

It was to be adapted for HBO by Steven Zaillian and Richard Price. Oscar-winning writer Zaillian directed and co-penned the pilot with Richard Price.
