NY Philharmonic Announces The 2018�"19 Season Of Free “Insights At The Atrium”

The New York Philharmonic announces the 2018-19 season of Insights at the Atrium, free events exploring themes of the Philharmonic's concert season through conversations and panel discussions. All events are held at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center and begin at 7:30 p.m.

Under the baton of Huang Yi, one of the brightest young conductors in China, the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) will celebrate the National Day on 28 & 29 September 2018 with two great Chinese symphonic works - the romantic Butterfly Lovers Violin Concerto by Chen Gang and He Zhanhao featuring violinist Wang Zhijong, and the heroic Long March Symphony by Ding Shande, the former mentor of Chen and He - in the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.

The New York Philharmonic announces details for the two new-music series it is inaugurating in the 2018-19 season: GRoW @ Annenberg Sound ON and Kravis Nightcap. Both series present the music of today in casual settings, hosted by The Marie-Josee Kravis Creative Partner Nadia Sirota, who will engage in conversation with the composers and performers.

Jaap van Zweden will begin his tenure as the 26th Music Director of the New York Philharmonic with his inaugural Opening Gala Concert, New York, Meet Jaap, Thursday, September 20, 2018. The program will feature the World Premiere of Ashley Fure's Filament, commissioned by the Philharmonic for the occasion; Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring; and Ravel's Piano Concerto in G major with Daniil Trifonov as soloist.

PBS today announced its fall 2018 schedule lineup, anchored by THE GREAT AMERICAN READ (Tuesdays, September 11- October 23). Exploring the power, passion and joy of reading, the series is hosted by Meredith Vieira and features reflections from everyday Americans as well as notables. Margaret Atwood, Lauren Graham, John Irving, Bill T. Jones, Devon Kennard, Gayle King, Diane Lane, George R.R. Martin and many more reflect on their favorite books. The series will culminate with the results of the first-ever national vote for “America's Best-Loved Novel.”

Key Pianists, Now In Its Fourth Season, Returns To Weill Recital Hall At Carnegie Hall

The imaginative and increasingly important Key Pianists concert series, founded by pianist Terry Eder in 2015, embarks on its fourth season with a recital by Norman Krieger, who 'owns a world of technique' (Los Angeles Times), on Wednesday evening, October 17, 2018 at 8 pm at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall. His program will include Brahms' Sonata in C Major and Beethoven's Sonata in D minor, as well as works by Chopin, Lazaroff, and Fine. On Tuesday evening, February 26, 2019 at 8 pm, pianist Jason Hardink-dubbed 'a pianist of such extraordinary power-and memory-that he is difficult to forget' by ConcertoNet's Harry Rolnick (14 Dec 2015)-will give a recital of 19th- and 20th-century gems by Eckardt, Debussy, Liszt, Xenakis, and Messiaen. To close out the season, series founder Terry Eder, noted for her 'fascinating [performances] full of life and risk' (New York Concert Review, Summer 2006), performs Schubert's Impromptu in F Minor, Op. 142, No. 1 and Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 28, as well as works by Debussy, Dohnanyi, and Kodaly.

The Shanghai Orchestra Academy and Residency Partnership continues this summer with activities on two continents. The New York Philharmonic travels to Shanghai for its fourth annual residency, July 1-7, 2018, with concerts conducted by Music Director Designate Jaap van Zweden and Bramwell Tovey. This follows students from the Shanghai Orchestra Academy traveling to New York City for a week-long immersion in the life of an orchestral musician, June 9-16, 2018, as part of the New York Philharmonic Global Academy Fellowship Program. Audra McDonald's SING HAPPY With the New York Philharmonic Celebrates Digital Release Today, May 11

Decca Gold is proud to announce the digital release of Sing Happy, the live performance of the New York Philharmonic's 2018 Spring Gala starring Grammy, Emmy, and Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald, and conducted by Andy Einhorn.
