Highland Park Strings, under the direction of Principal Conductor Dr. Robert G. Hasty, continues its 40th anniversary season with its annual Gala Benefit Concert BEETHOVEN SPECTACULAR on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at 3 pm at Ravinia's Bennett Gordon Hall, 201 St. Johns Ave in Highland Park.

Well, it's that time of the year again--time for a look-back on what was worth making note of during the calendar year that's about to come to an end. It's from a totally personal, subjective point of view, of course, but frankly that's the way opera-lovers always seem to like it, n'est-ce pas? The productions worth noting come from places big, small and in-between, from composers old as the hills to freshly minted or somewhere in between (likewise the performers), from traditional or boldly modern to simply stand up and sing.

Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem with soprano Ying Fang; baritone Matthias Goerne, The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence; and Concert Chorale of New York, directed by James Bagwell, Thursday, February 7, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, February 8 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, February 9 at 8:00 p.m.

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil) today announced the appointment of Mr Benedikt Fohr as its new Chief Executive following an international search. Mr Fohr will take up the position on 1 April 2019 to succeed the retiring Michael MacLeod, who has served the HK Phil for eight years.

This New Year's Eve, Live From Lincoln Center rings in 2019 by celebrating the beautiful intersection of classical music, popular musical theater, and dance. Marking the beginning of Lincoln Center's 60th anniversary celebration, Grammy winner and beloved soprano Renee Fleming performs as soloist alongside the New York Philharmonic, led by new Music Director Jaap van Zweden in his Live From Lincoln Center debut. Tony winner and Grammy and Emmy nominee Kelli O'Hara guest hosts the broadcast, airing live on PBS Monday, December 31 at 9:00 pm*.

This year, we are excited to welcome our Music Director Maestro Jaap van Zweden, along with the HK Phil's talented musicians- Jing Wang (Concertmaster), Richard Bamping (Principal Cello), Fang Xiaomu (Co-Principal Cello), Andrew Simon (Principal Clarinet) and Esteban Batallan (Principal Trumpet). They will be joined by the crowd favourite Harry Wong (or Harry Gor Gor) as host. So come and be inspired by the finest music-making under the stars on 24 November (Today) at the Central Harbourfront!

The New York Philharmonic will present New York Stories: Threads of Our City, January 14-27, 2019, two weeks of concerts and events examining New York City's roots as a city of immigrants. It will center on the World Premiere of Julia Wolfe's Fire in my mouth, co-commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, which reflects on the New York garment industry at the turn of the 20th century and the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which killed 146 garment workers, most of them young immigrants. New York Stories: Threads of Our City will also feature a program of new chamber music by composers influenced by their time in America; a special guided tour of the Tenement Museum featuring Philharmonic musicians; an archival exhibit featuring materials from the New York Philharmonic Archives, The Forward, the Museum of the City of New York, and the National Archives at New York City; and a free Insights at the Atrium event.

The 2018/19 season marks the 45th professional season of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra (HK Phil). Our Music Director Jaap van Zweden, acclaimed as "A Great Mahler Interpreter" by D Magazine, continues the Mahler cycle with a project dedicated to this celebratory season - Mahler $200, at which all seats for the Mahler symphonies no. 7 and no. 9 are available at a uniform price of HK$200. Members of the audience can sit somewhere new to enjoy a different acoustical and visual experience.

Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct Matthias Goerne's first appearance as The Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence of the New York Philharmonic for the 2018-19 season. He will be joining the Orchestra for orchestral arrangements of selected songs by Schubert and Richard Strauss in concerts that also include Webern's arrangement of J.S. Bach's Fuga (Ricercata) from Musical Offering, BWV 1079, and Mozart's Symphony No. 40. The program takes place Thursday, December 6, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, December 8 at 8:00 p.m.

Lyric Opera of Chicago is pleased to announce the participation of several outstanding singers in the Renee Fleming 25th Anniversary Concert & Gala*, to honor and celebrate American soprano Renee Fleming's extraordinary commitment to Chicago and her unparalleled contributions to our art form.

Music Director Jaap van Zweden will conduct the New York Philharmonic in Britten's Violin Concerto, with his Dutch compatriot Simone Lamsma as soloist in her Philharmonic debut, and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7, Leningrad. The program takes place Thursday, November 29, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 30 at 11:00 a.m.; and Tuesday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m.

The Marie-Josee Kravis Prize for New Music at the New York Philharmonic, which recognizes a composer for extraordinary artistic endeavor in the field of new music, has been awarded to South Korean composer Unsuk Chin. One of the world's largest new-music prizes, the Kravis Prize includes $200,000 and a commission to write a work for the New York Philharmonic. Ms. Chin's new orchestral work will receive its World Premiere by the Philharmonic in a future season. Funding for the Kravis Prize comes from a $10 million gift to the New York Philharmonic in 2009 by Henry R. Kravis in honor of his wife, Marie-Josee, for whom the Prize is named. Past Prize winners include Henri Dutilleux, Per Norgard, and Louis Andriessen.

The Art of Andriessen starts this week at the New York Philharmonic, and two programs offer an intimate look at Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's music and influences.
