Almost every choreographer attempts to address the relationship between the bedfellows of dance and music. The results of these examinations have had varying degrees of success. The program consisted of three works, Views of the Fleeting World; City; and Celestial Tides, all set to music by J. S. Bach. This evening, though this program had been performed before, was the first time that it was set to live music in its entirety.

A virtuoso composer-performer unique among keyboardists, Carpenter's approach to the organ is smashing the stereotypes of organists and organ music while generating a level of acclaim, exposure, and controversy unprecedented for an organist. Carpenter meets his audience in person before his performances - often spending over an hour before each concert shaking hands and signing autographs on the floor of a concert venue. For his performance at the Orpheum, Carpenter will play the theater's Wurlitzer Style 240 pipe organ, which was installed when the theater was built in 1927.

Dance has long been perceived as an art entertainment for the wealthy, educated and performance trained. Terms such as 'fifth position,' 'adagio,' 'camber,' 'shag,' and 'pirouette' are foreign to most people. Dance styles such as hip hop, Tango, jazz, Samba, and Broadway may be terms that have been heard, but not known as a specific type of dance. This combination has made attending dance programs a 'no go' activity for many.
