Playwrights Horizons And NYTW Present THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD Musical, Spring 2011

Playwrights Horizons (Artistic Director, Tim Sanford; Managing Director, Leslie Marcus) and New York Theatre Workshop (Artistic Director, James C. Nicola; Managing Director, William Russo) have announced that they will co-produce THE SHAGGS: PHILOSOPHY OF THE WORLD, a new musical with book by Joy Gregory; music by Gunnar Madsen; lyrics by Ms. Gregory and Mr. Madsen; and story by Ms. Gregory, Mr. Madsen and John Langs.

New York Theatre Workshop Announces 2010-2011 Subscriber Season

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo, have announced that the theatre's 2010-2011subscriber season will include: Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, starring Elizabeth Marvel and directed by Ivo Van Hove; Peter and the Starcatchers, a new play by Rick Elice, directed by Roger Rees and?Alex Timbers, based upon the novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson; Three Pianos, written, arranged, and performed by Rick Burkhardt, Alec Duffy, and Dave Malloy, and directed by Rachel Chavkin; and a fourth production to be announced in the coming weeks.

Annual Lincoln Center Festival to Feature Bill T. Jones, von Hove et al., 7/7-7/25

Nigel Redden, Director of the Lincoln Center Festival, which runs from July 7 through July 25, 2010, today announced the Festival's line-up, which includes ten North American, U.S., and New York premieres, and debuts. The Festival will unfold in seven venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus, including two major theater events on Governors Island-the North American premiere of Peter Stein's 12-hour marathon production of Dostoyevsky's The Demons (also known as The Possessed) and the North American premiere of Toneelgroep Amsterdam's production of Pier Paolo Pasolini's searing Teorema, adapted and staged by Ivo van Hove.

New York Theatre Workshop Announces Works for 2010-2011 Season

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) Artistic Director James C. Nicola and Managing Director William Russo, have announced that Lillian Hellman's The Little Foxes, starring Elizabeth Marvel and directed by Ivo Van Hove and a new musical by 'South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Avenue Q composer/lyricist Robert Lopez will kick off the theatre's 2010-2011 season. The 2009-2010 season will conclude with Top Secret: The Battle for the Pentagon Papers, written by Geoffrey Cowan and Leroy Aarons, and directed by John Rubinstein, and Restoration, a new play written by and starring Claudia Shear and directed by Christopher Ashley.

Ivo van Hove to Direct Elizabeth Marvel in THE LITTLE FOXES at NYTW in 2010

Director Ivo van Hove is set to oversee a production of Lillian Hellman's THE LITTLE FOXES in 2010. The production is expected to star Broadway's Elizabeth Marvel, most recently off the revival of Top Girls. THE LITTLE FOXES will be produced in full scale by the New York Theatre Workshop following a reading they presented earlier this year.

New Island Festival of Arts Concludes

New Island Festival, the international arts festival that inhabited Governors Island this month, concluded its engagement on Sunday. Highlights included visits by Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, who spoke at the closing ceremony, HRH Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima, who attended the first week, and a performance by Armin van Buuren, the internationally acclaimed Dutch DJ.

The Ruckus Announces 2009-10 Season Of World Premieres Presented At The Side Project Theater

Chicago is officially one theater company richer after The Ruckus Theater recently karate-chopped and high-fived its way into the Central Time Zone. Made up of an industrious group of Michigan ex-pats, The Ruckus is composed of actors, directors, playwrights, musicians, casting directors, publicity managers, grant writers, baristas, grad students, poets, computer fixers, appointment-makers and census-takers who aim to create a new kind of company-a casteless theater that blends the lines between playwright and actor, audience and company member.

O'Neill Exploration Is A Success, Attendance Over 50,000

Three countries, six theater companies, fourteen plays and programs, sixty-one days and an audience numbering nearly 50,000 defined 'A Global Exploration: Eugene O'Neill in the 21st Century' and marked an unprecedented success for Goodman Theatre. Artistic Director Robert Falls curated the ambitious eight-play selection of O'Neill's early works that appeared on both of the Goodman's stages January 7 - March 8: the 856-Albert and the 400-seat flexible Owen, which was transformed seven times, custom-designed for the visiting companies. The Exploration offerings performed at a grand total of 90% of capacity-alone, Falls' Broadway-bound production of Desire Under the Elms achieved 95% of capacity.

For four performances only February 25 - 28, Goodman Theatre welcomes the world renowned and 'refreshingly daring' (The New York Times) Toneelgroep Amsterdam and their contemporary adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's Rouw Siert Electra (Mourning Becomes Electra). Using a unique fusion of video, television and live performance, acclaimed director Ivo van Hove 'brings new meaning to the term ?in your face' (Variety). Presented in Dutch with English supertitles, performances of Rouw Siert Electra (Mourning Becomes Electra) are scheduled February 25 - 28 in the Goodman's Owen Bruner Theatre. Tickets are $18 - $25; a full calendar, including dates, times, ticket prices and information about the free special event, appears at the end of the release.
