THE COLOR PURPLE, Starring Cynthia Erivo, Jennifer Hudson and More, Begins Previews Next Week

The Color Purple begins preview performances this coming Tuesday, November 10 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th street). Grammy, Academy Award, and Golden Globe award winner JENNIFER HUDSON will make her Broadway debut opposite CYNTHIA ERIVO, the breakout star of John Doyle's acclaimed Menier Chocolate Factory production, and Orange is the New Black's DANIELLE BROOKS, in this fall's highly anticipated production. All three women will be making their Broadway debuts.
THE SECRET GARDEN to Run 11/20-12/20 at CCCT

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) continues its 56th season with the Tony award-winning musical, The Secret Garden, directed and choreographed by Roger Welch in his Bay Area debut, with music direction by Kevin Roland. The Secret Garden plays from November 20 through December 20; performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.

Earlier this week, the company of the 2014 revival of SIDE SHOW reunited at the The LGBT Community Center for a special CD release event. The cast, including Erin Davie, Emily Padgett, Matthew Hydzik, Javier Ignacio, Isaiah Johnson and Brandon Andrus, performed numbers from the show and then participated in a Q&A Panel. I'll admit that during Act One of the final show for this year's Intiman Theatre Festival, "Bootycandy", I kept thinking, "What the hell am I watching?" It was interesting and funny but felt disjointed with so many disconnected scenes. But by the end when they pulled them all together and I saw where they were going I was able to grab hold of that "aha" moment that you don't always get in theater.

Contra Costa Civic Theatre (CCCT) ends its 55th season with one of the world's most beloved musicals, The Sound of Music, directed by CCCT Artistic Director Marilyn Langbehn with music direction by Kevin Roland and choreography by Rick Wallace, from June 12 through July 19. Performances will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm at the theatre.
