Sondheim Grants Approval for Michael Ball & Imelda Staunton Led SWEENEY TODD for Broadway

Now, Baz Bamigboye of the UK Daily Mail has revealed that 'Stephen Sondheim has given director Jonathan Kent's Chichester Festival Theatre production of Sweeney Todd (with Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton delivering the stage performances of their lives) his seal of approval. He'd love the two stars to take the deliciously grisly musical to Broadway when they complete their run at the Adelphi Theatre. There's no official word this will happen yet, because both actors have crazy schedules, but it would be fantastic if they did manage to cross the Atlantic with this Sweeney.'

STAGE TUBE: Opening Night of SWEENEY TODD Starring Ball and Staunton

Oh yes! We've got a red carpet video for the opening night of SWEENEY TODD, which opened on the 20th on the West End. The video features interviews with stars Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton as well as Jason Manford, David Mitchell, Jim Broadbent and Tom Jones. Plus, there's a little peek of an onstage kiss.

West End SWEENEY TODD Opens Tonight; Imelda Staunton and Michael Ball Star

The West-End production of SWEENEY TODD, starring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, will officially open tonight, March 20, at the Adelphi Theatre. As Broadway World previously reported, Jonathan Kent's version of the musical opened in the West End for previews on March 10 following its sell-out success at the Chichester Festival Theatre. The show will feature British comedian Jason Manford as Signor Pirelli for one month while Robert Burt is on leave.

2ndCP Presents Sondheim's ASSASSINS 3/20-4/08

Following a string of sell out shows, 2nd Company Productions (2ndCP) will be moving from the 56-seat Pleasance Studio Space to the 288 seat Main Space for its latest and most ambitious project to date, Stephen Sondheim's ASSASSINS. It will run from 20th March to 8th April at The Pleasance Theatre Main Space in Islington.

Olivier Awards Nominations to be Broadcast Live March 15

The nominations for the Laurence Olivier Awards will be broadcast live via the Olivier Awards website at 12pm on March the 15th, 2012. The Society of London Theatre will announce the nominees at an event in the Mayfair Hotel in London.

First Night to Release New SWEENEY TODD Album in April

Following sell-out success at Chichester Festival Theatre, Jonathan Kent's acclaimed production of Sweeney Todd just transferred to London's West End for a limited season on 10 March 2012. Widely acknowledged as Stephen Sondheim's musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd stars distinguished musical performer Michael Ball as the eponymous demon barber of Fleet Street and Oscar-nominated actress Imelda Staunton as the devoted Mrs Lovett. First Night Records will release the new 2012 album in April. It is currently available for pre-order here.

Comedian Jason Manford to Join UK SWEENEY TODD As Pirelli for One Month

British comedian Jason Manford is to play Signor Pirelli in Jonathan Kent's West-End production of SWEENY TODD. Actor Michael Ball, who stars as Todd in the show, revealed on the Jonathan Ross Show on Saturday evening that Jason Manford will be taking the role while Robert Burt, who is currently playing the part, is on leave.

Omid Djalili to Lead WHAT THE BUTLER SAW at the Vaudeville Theatre, Opening 16 May

Omid Djalili returns to the West End stage to star as Dr Rance in Joe Orton's comedy WHAT THE BUTLER SAW directed by Sean Foley. The new production will open at the Vaudeville Theatre on Wednesday 16 May, following previews from Friday 4 May, for a strictly limited season, ending on Saturday 25 August.
