The Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle (LADCC) has announced its nominations and special awards for excellence in Los Angeles, Orange County and Ventura County theatre for the year 2016 (Dec. 1, 2015 - Nov. 30, 2016).

The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presents From the Mouths of Monsters, a contemporary, highly theatrical world premiere commission that plunges audiences headfirst into the complex world of adolescence, where speaking out can have astounding consequences.

Goodman Theatre announces Jess McLeod as the recipient of the 2016/2017 Michael Maggio Fellowship for Chicago-based directors. 

American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity Ensemble, under the continued leadership of Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside, has named Idris Goodwin the winner of the 2017 National Blue Ink Playwriting Award. Goodwin's play, HYPE MAN, was selected from a pool 543 submissions. As part of the award, Goodwin receives a $1,000 cash prize and the opportunity to further develop his script with American Blues Theater.

Led by facilitator Ben Krywosz and music director Roger Ames, the two-week Studio is designed to provide an opportunity for five writers and five composers to work with five professional performers, exploring the possibilities and basic elements of telling stories through music, whether the style is opera, musicals, or alternative work.

 The Theatre @ Boston Court announces its 2017 Main Stage Season.  The season begins February 18, 2017 with the West Coast Premiere of Collective Rage; a Play in 5 Boops by Jen Silverman, directed by Lindsay Allbaigh. The spring production is the World Premiere of The House in Scarsdale: a memoir for the stage by Dan O'Brien; directed by Michael Michetti. The Main Stage season closes in the fall with a West Coast Premiere of With Love and a Major Organ by Julia Lederer, directed by Jessica Kubzansky.  All Main Stage productions will appear at Boston Court Performing Arts Center, 70 North Mentor Avenue in Pasadena, CA.

Haven Theatre Company and Artistic Director Josh Sobel have announced the Director's Haven for 2016, an emerging director's showcase, October 28 - November 9, at The Den Theatre, 1333 N. Milwaukee Ave.

The UC Santa Barbara Department of Theater and Dance and LAUNCH PAD present a workshop of a brand new play, Bernhard, by Lynn Rosen. A provocative new piece inspired by the current refugee crisis and political trends across the globe, as well as the compelling life of Austrian author Thomas Bernhard, opens on November 4 and runs through November 13 at the UCSB Performing Arts Theater.

(The) National New Play Network, the country's alliance of nonprofit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, celebrates an October filled with NNPN Rolling World Premieres (RWP), including Bars and Measures by Idris Goodwin at The Theatre @ Boston Court (playing until October 23); Pulp by Joseph Zettelmaier at Williamston Theatre (playing until October 23) and Know Theatre of Cincinnati (playing until October 27); Not Medea by Allison Gregory at Perseverance Theatre (playing in Juneau until November 6 and Anchorage November 11-20); Into the Beautiful North by Karen Zacarias at Central Works (playing until November 13); and Church and State by Jason Odell Williams at JCC CenterStage (Oct 22 - Nov 6).

Following Houston's 2nd Annual Mural Festival, The Landing Theatre Company opens their first full production of the 2016-17 season with Idris Goodwin and Kevin Coval's This is Modern Art, originally commissioned by Steppenwolf Theatre and work shopped at The Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

The Theatre @ Boston Court announces the annual New Play Festival to be presented on two Saturdays, November 5th and 12th at Boston Court Performing Arts Center in Pasadena, CA.

People in the St. Louis area have two opportunities to see the show. Center of Creative Arts (COCA, 524 Trinity Ave, St. Louis, MO 63130) will be hosting a performance on Saturday, October 15th at 8pm and The Repertory Theatre of St. Louis (130 Edgar Rd, Webster Groves, MO 63119) will be hosting a performance on Monday, October 24th at 8pm. Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces that Lisa Portes is the recipient of the 2016 Zelda Fichandler Award, which recognizes an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through singular creativity and artistry in the theatre. The award heralds accomplishment to date and promise for the future, artistic vision, and deep commitment to a region outside of New York. It carries an unrestricted grant of $5,000 to the individual recipient.

Haven Theatre Company announces How We Got On to begin their fourth season, written by Idris Goodwin and directed by Jess McLeod, at the company's new home within the Den Theatre's new Bookspan Theatre, 1335 Milwaukee Ave., September 29 - November 12. Previews are Thursday, Sept. 29 - Saturday, Oct.1 at 8 p.m. Opening night is Sunday, Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. The regular performance schedule is Thursdays - Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Regular run tickets are $32, senior tickets are $20 and college/industry tickets are $15 (preview tickets are $12).
