Galway International Arts Festival takes place from 15-28 July 2024 with a packed programme of theatre, circus, music, visual art, street art and spectacle, comedy and talks, that looks at who we are and what concerns us.

The 23rd Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards was due to take place tomorrow night at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. 

Celebrated singer-songwriter Mick Flannery, writer Ursula Rani Sarma, and director Annabelle Comyn have transformed Flannery's acclaimed concept album, Evening Train, into a stunning new musical and it premieres at Cork Midsummer Festival next week, Friday, June 14th, and continues until Sunday 23rd June.

This month sees the world premiere of Lee Coffey's new play In Our Veins, a Bitter Like Lemon and Abbey Theatre co-production. The production marks the Abbey Theatre début for Lee – a Dublin based playwright, who was a participant in the prestigious Rough Magic SEEDS programme in 2017, on the 2018 New Playwrights Programme at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast and is now one of Six In The Attic, an Irish Theatre Institute initiative to support and promote emerging creative talent. He is a founding member of Bitter Like a Lemon Theatre Company, whose production Leper + Chip has been performed to great acclaim in Ireland and at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where it was nominated for the Broadway Baby 5 Star Award and the National Student Drama Award for Best Play.

Come on Home is a quintessentially Irish tale exploring the fragile yet resilient bonds of family against a backdrop of sexual intolerance, rejection and regret. Playwright Philip McMahon's new narrative dredges the murky waters of small-town Irish prejudice and presents it compassionately without bias or judgement.

Originally written by Sean O'Casey, the play, which presents an unflinching criticism of the 1916 Easter Rising, sparked riots when it was performed in Ireland in 1926.
