The Professional Dancers Society (PDS) held its Annual Gypsy Awards Luncheon Sunday, April 23rd at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA in honor of Choreographer Mandy Moore (La La Land, So You Think You Can Dance, Dancing with the Stars), veteran TV Producer Lee Hale (Dean Martin Variety Series) choreographers Karen Willes and Natalie Willes; and legendary performer Carol Channing who was not able to attend, but who sent a letter to be read by her dear friend, the iconic Lily Tomlin.  In her own inimitable style, Ms. Tomlin spoke fondly of Ms. Channing and recalled their first meeting "...in a dark alley in Chicago, it was the backstage door to the Shubert Theater, where Carol was appearing in 'Hello Dolly!.'  BWW TV's own Michael Sterling was there to talk to the stars.

BWW Review: WET's CHERDONNA'S DOLL'S HOUSE Beats the Joke to Death then Quits

If you're going to riff on a classic, then have something to add to the conversation. Sometimes it works beautifully such as the amazing 'Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead' or the current critically acclaimed Broadway hit 'A Doll's House, Part 2'. But without something new to add any kind of parody just becomes a self-indulgent pale rehash of the original. Such is the case with 'Cherdonna's Doll's House' currently playing from Washington Ensemble Theatre.

'Corners' by Dalton Domino Released Today on Lightning Rod Records

For Dalton Domino, music was always present. “It's always been there,” he says. “I don't really know anything else.” Even as a child, he heard the melodies. And the chords. But always the lyrics — the way artists of all stripes, from punk rockers to traditional country artists, could convey a simple or complex truth with a simple turn of phrase.

Photo Coverage: Clint Holmes Celebrates New CD With Birdland Performance

The word Artist is never more accurately applied to an entertainer then when it is used to describe Clint Holmes.  Clint starts with a familiar song title on a blank music  page, and then goes on to create something you never thought that tune could become.   His vocal, jazz, acting ability, combined with his creativity cross every music red, blue, black and white music line you ever laid down.  Most of the audience at Jim Caruso's Broadway at Birdland Series were already 'educated consumers' at his performance celebrating the CD Release of 'Rendezvous'  last night.  However, for all, it was a reminder of what a truly great performer can brilliantly accomplish with the same 12 notes and combination of beats that all vocalists have at their disposal.
