Oberlin Conservatory of Music Brings 2013 Illumination Tour to NYC, Now thru 1/19

One of the country's most prestigious musical institutions, the Oberlin Conservatory of Music comes to New York City in January for a tour -- spanning four concerts in four venues -- that includes performances by the Oberlin Faculty Jazz Ensemble, Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble with International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), Oberlin College Choir, Oberlin Baroque and the Oberlin Orchestra.

Ruy Iskandar, Yuekun Wu to Lead Signature Theatre's THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD; Tickets On Sale

Signature Theatre has announced that casting is confirmed and tickets are now on sale for THE DANCE AND THE RAILROAD written by David Henry Hwang and directed by May Adrales. All tickets for the initial run of the production are $25 as part of the Signature Ticket Initiative: A Generation of Access. The production runs February 5 through March 17, 2013 with a February 25 opening night in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center (480 West 42nd Street between 9th and 10th Avenues).

Jefferson Friedman’s String Quartet No. 3 Nominated for a GRAMMY

Composer Jefferson Friedman's String Quartet No. 3, part of the Chiara String Quartet's Jefferson Friedman: Quartets album released in April on New Amsterdam Records, has been nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Contemporary Classical Composition category (#76).

Target® Free Thursdays present a range of exciting artists this January and February, banjo virtuoso Jayme Stone, Colombian singer Lucia Pulido, and country/bluegrass artist Ruth Moody. Admission is free, but seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

American Opera Projects Receives NEA Funding for Two Operas

American Opera Projects (AOP) announces that composer Huang Ruo's The Weeping Camel and composer Gregory Spears's Paul's Case are awarded $10,000 each from the National Endowment of the Arts's ART WORKS initiative to support developmental workshop productions with AOP and producing partners. Both operas will be developed through AOP's First Chance series that presents concert readings of new operas in an intimate format that allows for direct conversation between audience and artist. Operas that receive fully-staged premieres after passing through First Chance include Tarik O'Regan's Heart of Darkness (London's Royal Opera House), Jorge Martín's Before Night Falls (Fort Worth Opera), and Stephen Schwartz's Séance on a Wet Afternoon (New York City Opera, Opera Santa Barbara), among many others.

David Wakefield Joins Hartt's Instrumental Studies Division

The Hartt School, the comprehensive performing arts conservatory of the University of Hartford, is pleased to welcome acclaimed horn player and American Brass Quintet member David Wakefield to the faculty of The Hartt School's Instrumental Studies Division. As a senior artist teacher, Wakefield will work with Hartt's horn students.
