Dixon Place's new musical commission, WAR LESBIAN, will have its world premiere beginning December 5th. Featuring Erin Markey, this original musical, with book by Kristine Haruna Lee, music by Kathryn Hathaway and a cast of ten is directed by Jordan Fein in collaboration with harunalee.

Internationally acclaimed performance artist KAREN FINLEY will present a one-night-only encore engagement of her newest work WRITTEN IN SAND at The Laurie Beechman Theater on Saturday, November 22 at 7pm. WRITTEN IN SAND includes performance pieces and writings on AIDS Finley wrote between 1983 and 1994, many performed publicly for the first time when the piece premiered in early October at Baruch Performing Arts Center.

Dixon Place will present a world premiere of Creatures of Habit, choreographed by Jonathan Royse Windham to original music composed by Daniel Kazemi. Mr. Windham was recently named one of Dance Magazine's '25 to Watch.' Creatures of Habit will play for three weekends beginning tonight, October 3rd through Saturday, October 18th.

Karen Finley, a name synonymous with performance art, will present the New York premiere of her new work WRITTEN IN THE SAND at Baruch Performing Arts Center on beginning tonight, October 2. WRITTEN IN THE SAND includes performance pieces and writings on AIDS Finley wrote between 1983 and 1994, many performed publicly for the first time. Opening night, October 2, is a benefit for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Tickets for opening night are $40 and include a champagne afterparty with Ms. Finley; the remaining dates are $30 (students and seniors $20 at the box office only). Holly Hughes' farcical radio play, 'The Well of Horniness,' a 1980s spoof of 1940s radio detective dramas, opens the USM Theatre season this month at Russell Hall, Gorham campus, replete with lusty lesbians, a sorority of sin and a captivating -- and campy -- murder mystery.

The University of Southern Maine (USM) Department of Theatre is presenting an innovative and enlightening six-show season for 2014-2015, replete with skirt-chasing dames, lonely love-torn souls, original dance, a production at the Portland Stage Studio Theater featuring a satirical southern belle and her hypochondriac son, followed by a pistol-packing nun, and the Maine premiere of the sensational new musical, 'Catch Me If You Can,' as well as one of Shakespeare's most beloved comedies 'shadowed' by American Sign Language interpreter-performers.

Dixon Place presents new work every month -- theater, puppetry, performance and visual art, music, dance and literature -- at all stages of development. This Fall, Dixon Place will present new-works-in-progress written and performed by current Artist-in-Residence David Cale. On Thursday evenings this month -- September 4th, 11th, 18th, and 25th at 7:30pm -- Cuz I Just Got To Be Me...Free, a series of workshop performances that feature unfettered new songs, monologues and stories -- each evening a different 45-minute set -- will be performed in The Dixon Place Lounge.

Also that evening, four honorees will receive the iconic Dixon Place mini chair award for their contributions to the arts and support of Dixon Place: award winning actor-writer Peggy Shaw; The Jerome Foundation, celebrating its 50th Anniversary; Dixon Place Board member Eric Jensen, and theater supporter Yoshiko Kakuga.

This season, Iron Crow consciously sought out plays that featured strong female characters and put them at the center of the story. Artistic Director Steven J. Bridgeport's first neighborhood theater company, The Bridge, 643 W. 31st Street, opens its doors with the World Premiere of 'The Golf Ball', Today, June 13. Chicago writer, director and actor Kestutis Nakas started The Bridge as a means to bring professional quality theater and performance to the Bridgeport neighborhood at reasonable prices. The premiere production penned by Nakas, 'The Golf Ball, is a contemporary adaptation of Anton Chekhov's classic play 'The Seagull' and is set in Chicago.
