Oran Etkin to Perform Pair of Family Concerts at Jewish Museum, 12/25

The Jewish Museum will present Oran Etkin's Timbalooloo in two special concerts for families on Friday, December 25 at 11:30 am and 2 pm. Etkin will be presenting a new production, 'Sing Sing Sing - Benny Goodman in the Kingdom of Swing,' incorporating music from Etkin's new CD for adults, What's New? Reimagining Benny Goodman, and playing it in a child-friendly way. Together with a full band, Etkin take kids on an adventure through the Kingdom of Swing, meeting King Oliver, Duke Ellington, and a little boy named Benny Goodman who grows up to become the King of Swing. Just as Benny Goodman was welcomed by the regal masters that came before him, children too are encouraged to express themselves and find their own voices in the Kingdom of Swing through this fun and interactive concert experience.

Ben Williams to Bring Prince Tribute to Harlem Stage, 12/11-12

Assembling a stellar cast of rising stars in the worlds of R&B, funk, soul, jazz and classical, Thelonious Monk Competition Winner and Grammy Award-winning bassist Ben Williams pays tribute to the musical legacy of Prince at Harlem Stage, December 11 and 12. Drawing inspiration from his iconic discography, Dearly Beloved - The Music of Prince will feature newly imagined arrangements and compositions that celebrate the virtuosity of Prince with a wide range of special guests including vocalists Goapele, Frank McComb and Christie Dashiell, tap dancer/choreographer Jason Samuels Smith, poet/emcee/vocalist W. Ellington Felton and additional surprise guests. A guest DJ will spin for the pre-performance mixer and after-party. As a preview to the December 12 performance of Dearly Beloved - The Music of Prince, Harlem Stage will present an intimate conversation with Ben Williams. He'll share his creative process forDearly Beloved and discuss the art of re-imagining and arranging works of famous artists.

Savion Glover & Jack DeJohnette to Bring Evening of Music, Rhythm to Kingsbury Hall

UtahPresents brings two legendary performers to the University of Utah campus, in the final performance of the series in 2015.  A tour de force of percussion and rhythm, this once in a lifetime session brings together tap dance legend Savion Glover and Jack DeJohnette, the foremost jazz drummer of our time. Savion Glover and Jack DeJohnette will perform at Kingsbury Hall on Monday, December 14 at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $19-$45, with a $5 ticket for U of U students and a $10 ticket for non-U students and youth 18 and under, and are available at 801-581-7100 or utahpresents.org.

Carnegie Hall to Welcome Lang Lang, Today

Grammy Award-nominated concert pianist Lang Lang makes his first of three appearances at Carnegie Hall this season with a solo recital today, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The concert features Bach's Italian Concerto, BWV 971-a complex and pioneering work inspired by Vivaldi-along with Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, Op. 37b and Chopin's four scherzos. By the time he was 22 years old, the acclaimed pianist had already performed twice at Carnegie Hall -with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Temirkanov in 2001 and with the New York String Orchestra under Jaime Laredo in 2002-before making his sold-out solo recital debut in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on November 7, 2003, which was recorded live by Deutsche Grammophon.

MSM to Celebrate 50th Anniversary of Herbie Hancock's Maiden Voyage

On Thursday, October 22 (7:30 pm) at Manhattan School of Music's Borden Auditorium, and on Monday, November 23 (7:30 & 9:30 pm) at Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Jazz at Lincoln Center, the MSM Concert Jazz Band, under the direction of Justin DiCioccio (MM '71), will pay tribute to Herbie Hancock's seminal Blue Note Records album, Maiden Voyage. The album, which received the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 1999, turns 50 this year.
