Cameron Mackintosh announced today that Andy Mientus, who captured the hearts of TV viewers with his portrayal of Kyle Bishop on the NBC series 'Smash' and talented newcomer Charlotte Maltby will play Marius and Cosette in his acclaimed new production of Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schonberg's Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece LES MISERABLES, which returns to Broadway beginning Saturday, March 1 at the Imperial Theatre (249 West 45th Street). Mientus and Maltby join recently announced cast members Ramin Karimloo (Jean Valjean); Will Swenson (Javert); Caissie Levy (Fantine) and Nikki M. James (Eponine) The official opening night for LES MISERABLES is Sunday, March 23. Additional casting, including the roles of Enjolras and the Thenardiers, will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre's Executive Producer & CEO, Bill Kiska, announced that the international blockbuster Les Miserables will play the theatre during the summer of 2014. As Frederick's only year-round producing theater, Way Off Broadway is preparing to reach a milestone when its 2014 Season opens in January. Way Off Broadway will be celebrating twenty years of entertainment at its theater located in the Willowtree Plaza on the west side of the City of Frederick.

After opening to the season's best reviews and playing to wildly enthusiastic capacity crowds, Cameron Mackintosh's new production of Boublil & Schonberg's masterpiece LES MISERABLES is extending its limited Toronto engagement by six more weeks. LES MISERABLES will now play until February 2, 2014 at the Princess of Wales Theatre. This will be the production's final extension.

Noel Ruiz, that is, CM PAC's beloved leader, a mentor to so many, and a pillar of the Long Island theatre community who passed away in September. Village Theatre's Artistic Director Steve Tomkins 'dreamed a dream' many years ago when he first saw actor Greg Stone perform in Les Miserables. After directing Stone in Jesus Christ Superstar in 1993 Tomkins wondered, "Could I put together my 'dream cast,' that included Stone, and present this monstrous legendary mega-hit musical Les Miserables at Village Theatre?" Scheduling conflicts, rights issues and budget constraints stood in his way, but much like the character Jean Valjean, Tomkins persisted. Over a decade later the stage production rights became available for a short window of time (that window closes when the Broadway revival of Les Miserables opens in March of 2014) and Tomkins got to work putting the many pieces together for a Village Theatre production.

Franklin Performing Arts Company (FPAC) opens its 23rd season with the Broadway and worldwide phenomenon, Les Miserables. FPAC's production will be staged at the New England Chapel, 40 Kenwood Circle in Franklin, with performances on Friday and Saturday, October 18 and 19, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, October 20, at 3:00 p.m.

At long last, the phenomenon is coming home. Chance McClain, the creator of the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog fan prequel Horrible Turn, is back with this epic imagining of the showdown featured in Les Miserables' The Confrontation. It's hard to sing when you have a lightsaber to your throat!

I must be honest here; Balagan Theatre putting on a production of Les Mis already has two hurdles to overcome before I even set foot in the door. First that it's Les Mis. It's a monumental undertaking and one of my favorite shows and I'm incredibly picky about it. And two, it's Balagan and with their recent track record I expect great things. So before I even enter the theater I already have some impossibly high standards for the production. And while there were definitely some superb moments on that stage (many in fact) there were also some glaring drawbacks that kept the show from meeting or even exceeding those standards.
