Dallas Opera is proud to present a landmark of modern opera new to the company's repertoire: THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Benjamin Britten, with a libretto by Myfanwy Piper. dark and gripping tale is based on the atmospheric, nineteenth-century novella by Henry James. This production from England's Glyndebourne Festival Opera opens on Friday, March 17, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. at the Winspear Opera House. Three additional performances of THE TURN OF THE SCREW will take place on March 19, 22, and 25, 2017.

HOLIDAY HOUSE: CHRISTMAS BENDS, the latest from Tracy Weller's experimental theater company, Mason Holdings, bills itself as a 'darkly comedic... psychological study of how we experience childhood as outsiders.' A brief perusal of Weller's fascinating website, Tracy Weller Land-a rabbit hole in the best sense--would make clear that this is not a show for anyone under 16, notwithstanding the pre-show holiday party with cookies, egg nog, and a live Santa. And in spite of the star's evident talent, the play is disjointed and incoherent.

Actors Co-op (Ovation Award-Winner 2014 Best Intimate Theatre Musical for 110 in the Shade) presents the second show in its celebratory 25th Silver Anniversary season with the frightfully delightful THE TURN OF THE SCREW by Jeffrey Hatcher from the classic story by Henry James and directed by Robertson Dean (Antigone - A Noise Within).  THE TURN OF THE SCREW previewed on Wednesday, October 12 and Thursday, October 13 at 8pm and opened on Friday, October 14 at 8pm; it runs through Sunday, November 20 at the Actors Co-op Crossley Theatre, 1760 N. Gower St. (on the campus of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood) in Hollywood.

Bookworks Artist Claire Jeanine Satin Presents Sackner Documentary

Book Artist Claire Jeanine Satin will be presenting a documentary that traces the mission and devotion of Ruth and Marvin Sackner's exceptional archive of visual and concrete poetry created by Sara Sackner. The collection is a remarkable trove of 70,000 plus works focusing on text-based and image content in book art and related works. The largest and most renowned collection of its kind in the world currently resides in Miami. 'It is my pleasure to share this film as an homage to Ruth Sackner,' says Satin. 'I am grateful for my long friendship with the Sackners and for including my work in their collection.' Satin has been creating Bookworks for over 40 years. Seven of her Bookworks are in the Library of Congress Rare Books Collection as well as many others. Her last exhibition was held in Geneva, Italy as part of the Centennial Celebration for American-born British author, Henry James. Most of Satin's works are based on the concept of indeterminacy as a result of her association with John Cage. The documentary will be shown on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at 7:00 P.M. at the Cinema Paradiso, 503 SE 6th Street in Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33301.

Ann Arbor's Penny Seats Theatre Company is set to open its seventh season this year, with four shows, the largest season the company has ever attempted.  Through an operational support grant from the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts, the company has expanded its offerings and will have a year-round presence.
