Rubicon Theatre Founders Karyl Lynn Burns and James O'Neil announce the company's 2016 Season of mainstage productions, entitled "Fair Ladies, Fine Gentlemen (and Others)." The season features two American Premieres, a beloved classic, a one-person drama about an American icon, and a campy musical send-up of '50s sci-fi films loosely based on Shakespeare's The Tempest. The season opens with See Rock City (January 27-February 14, 2016), the second play in the Nibroc Trilogy by Arlene Hutton. May and Raleigh's Appalachian love story continues as the couple plans a honeymoon in Rock City, Tennessee in 1943. When victory overseas brings unexpected consequences at home, May and Raleigh are forced to face hidden truths and find common solutions to the challenges of a new, post-war America. See Rock City stands alone as a funny, touching and universal portrayal of a young couple very much in love.

We're back! After an extended absence due to The Last Five Years (we directed it to boffo notices from our critical colleagues), The 2015 First Night Honors (which played to SRO crowds at Chaffin's Barn in September) and a sense of overwhelming malaise and ennui (we are ever so dramatic at times), BWW Nashville's Critic's Choice is back on the interwebs, offering you our insights and advice on the shows that are coming up and what you should try to find time to see - or to avoid at all costs, depending on our perspective.
Led by a pair of stellar performances from Aaron Solomon and Darryl Deason, Arts Center of Cannon County's production of Reginald Rose's 12 Angry Men retains its crackling intensity some 61 years after it premiered on television and 58 years since the acclaimed film version starring Henry Fonda and Lee J. Cobb. Adapted for the stage by Sherman L. Sergel, the play's themes remain imminently relevant in the 21st century, brought to life under Terry Deason's direction.

I would describe Bucks County Playhouse's production of ON GOLDEN POND, under the direction of Jonathan Silverstein, as comforting. The show is a warm-hearted and beautiful production with a cast that skillfully crafts a portrait of a family. The story is nostalgic and takes the audience on a journey back to simpler times. ON GOLDEN POND sheds light on the complexities of relationships and how they change over time. ON GOLDEN POND at Bucks County Playhouse pays homage to aging and family relationships, and this production has a solid and outstanding cast.
