New Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce its 27th Season. The seven plays in New Rep's 2010-2011 Season-Boston Marriage; Cherry Docs; Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune; afterlife: a ghost story; DollHouse; The Last Five Years; and Passing Strange-address the theme of transformation through comedy, love, loss, music, personal and artistic growth, and forgiveness.

New York Magazine presents a snapshot of Stew (born Mark Stewart) and Heidi Rodewald's journey from PASSING STRANGE to the upcoming MAKING IT. In the article, Stephen Rodrick highlights their beginnings in Los Angeles in the 1990's. They realized they were a good musical team (with one listener calling their sound 'Randy Newman meets Sesame Street') and become romantically involved as well. In 2000 Entertainment Weekly branded their album, 'Guest Host' as one of the best of the year (although it does not get sold widely).
The Sundance Institute has chosen 8 playwrights to take part in their annual Sundance Institute Playwrights Retreat, Variety is reporting. The retreat began Monday, February 1st, and the residency will last through February 19th. The residency will take place in Ucross, Wyoming.

Stephen Sondheim turns 80 on Monday, March 22nd, 2010 and he will celebrate this landmark event with Roundabout Theatre Company at a special performance of Sondheim on Sondheim and star-studded tribute at Roundabout's 2010 Spring Gala: Sondheim 80.

Though I hadn't seen Passing Strange during its earlier stint Off-Broadway, I took my seat well aware that writers and critics and audience members alike have been grasping for the words that best describe the type of theatrical entertainment that has now settled into the Belasco Theatre. Two and a half hours later I believe I was able to succinctly categorize Passing Strange in its truest form. Now, please pay attention because I put a lot of thought into this.
