The Public Theater Announces 2012-13 Emerging Writers Group Selections

The Public Theater (Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Executive Director Patrick Willingham) announced today the 10 playwrights selected as the 2012-13 Emerging Writers Group. Now in its fourth season, the Emerging Writers Group is a bi-annual program that targets playwrights at the earliest stages of their careers and nurtures their artistic growth by providing necessary resources and support. Time Warner is the Founding Sponsor of The Public Writers Initiative.

The inaugural event of 9 producers, bringing together 6 playwrights, 6 directors, and 18 actors to re-conceive classic plays from the African-American Diaspora. Harlem9 aims to explore the past, present, and future of black culture and our rich history of storytelling, thus serving to contribute to the re-invigoration of the Harlem community. 48 HOURS IN HARLEM's final presentation is Sunday, August 14, 2011. The New York Musical Theatre Festival (NYMF) today announced the selections for the 2011 Next Link Project, NYMF's primary writer service program. The Next Link Project empowers emerging musical theatre writing teams as both artists and entrepreneurs by providing the training and relationships needed to help them move their musicals from readings to fully-realized productions and to advance their careers by maximizing the exposure they receive in the Festival. Twelve of the Festival's full production slots are reserved for participants in The Next Link Project.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced award recipients in 3 of this year's 32 media categories at the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards presented nationally by RÖKK Vodka and locally by Southwest Airlines at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis on Saturday night. Additional awards were presented in New York on March 19, and in Los Angeles on April 10.

The GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. GLAAD Media Award nominees were published, released or broadcast between January 1, 2010 and December 31, 2010.
'The media has a huge role in growing acceptance and understanding of gay and transgender people,' said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. 'As Americans see images and stories like this year's award recipients, more and more are supporting full equality.'

GLAAD Media Award recipients were announced in 25 of this year's 32 media categories at the 22nd Annual GLAAD Media Awards presented nationally by RÖKK Vodka and locally by American Airlines and Prudential at the Marriott Marquis Times Square in New York on Saturday night.
