Just in time for Halloween, The Mirror Theatre Company at the Avery Schreiber Playhouse presents a stunning re-creation of the classic Orson Welles radio broadcast of WAR OF THE WORLDS. Orson Welles adapted H.G. Wells classic sci-fi story, telling the tale of Martian invasion via a string of urgent news bulletins. The broadcast scared people alright, but not in exactly the way Welles planned. Americans hearing the live broadcast believed that the country was actually under attack from space aliens. Set in a radio studio, circa 1938, WAR OF THE WORLDS uses the original script written and produced by Welles and a sterling cast of veteran voice actors.

Tennessee Repertory Theatre continues its 2013-2014 season with Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, a Trivial Comedy for Serious People. The classic comedy opens October 12th with a scheduled run thru October 26th (previews October 10-11), but the crew here at Tennessee Rep has already been in the thick of Earnest for quite some time.

THE TIME MACHINE MUSICAL is a one-hour condensed version of a longer two act musical adapted for the Fringe by Steve Altman and Joshua Fardon based on the H.G. Wells sci-fi story.

The lush music, the period costumes, and Andrew Samonsky's performance kept me involved. There's some trimming to be done, and some rewriting, and maybe it will work for fans of the movie. But there could be so much more.

Jaime Murray is taking over Syfy on Monday, June 3 from 9-11PM (ET/PT) when the Defiance star returns to Warehouse 13 as H.G. Wells, the “father” of science fiction and sometimes-Warehouse Agent, who disappeared last season.

Duncan Shelley, author of “Murderers of the Mind,” presents a new tale that seamlessly blends science fiction and horror, titled Paktum I: The Taste of Fear. In his terrifying vision of the future, Shelley posits not the classic alien invasion, ala H.G. Wells' War of the Worlds; instead, he presents an even more chilling alternative, a dystopian scenario where a cabal of human leaders has sold the population out to extraterrestrials craving for human flesh.
