Now that New Year's Eve celebrations are behind us, my favorite time of the theatre year is upon us. In late winter and early spring, theaters all around Houston start unveiling their upcoming seasons, in hopes of keeping current season subscribers and gaining new ones. Kicking off this annual season of unveiling is Gexa Energy's Broadway at the Hobby Center 2014-2015 Season announcement.
This February, the Academy of Music at Hamilton High School, winner of the Los Angeles Music Center's Bravo Award, will stage Anything Goes, the classic musical comedy filled with well-loved songs by Cole Porter, blazing tap dance numbers and madcap antics taking place aboard an ocean liner traveling from New York to London. (Little-known fact: The Tony Award-winning 2011 Broadway revival starred Hamilton High alumnus Joel Grey as Moonface Martin!)
Roundabout Theatre Company's national tour of the 2011 Tony Award-winning Anything Goes will complete 13 months of "Education@Roundabout" on the road with a student Postcard Production Workshop on Thursday, November 14 in Greenville, SC. Anything Goes will play at the Peace Center in Greenville, SC through November 17, 2013.
The national tour of Roundabout Theatre Company's ANYTHING GOES, the new Broadway revival of Cole Porter's timeless classic musical theatre masterpiece, will make its Orange County premiere tonight, September 24 - 29 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts as part of the Curtain Call Series.
NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT closed up shop on Broadway on June 15, 2013. The show enjoyed 478 regular performances and 27 preview performances over the course of about 15 months. Its notices were mixed to positive, and there are plans to kick off a National Tour for the 2014-2015 season. For those of us who missed the show on Broadway, the lively and decadently glitzy NICE WORK IF YOU CAN GET IT (Original Broadway Cast Recording), which was released by Shout! Factory and distributed by Sony Records, perfectly allows us to acquaint ourselves with the production before it plays in our regional venues.
The Roundabout Theatre Company's Anything Goes, the recent Broadway revival of Cole Porter's timeless classic musical theatre masterpiece, will make its Seattle premiere at The 5th Avenue Theatre, playing October 15 - November 3.

In 1934, during the height of the Great Depression, Americans were looking for escapist entertainment and they found it in Cole Porter's frothy, screw-ball comedy, Anything Goes. Since then the show has seen many updates and revivals, the latest of which won the 2011 Tony for Best Revival. The plot remains a zany farce set on a cruise ship where disguises, mistaken identities and malapropisms contribute to a very de-lovely evening at the theatre. The show sets sail now thru August 25 with Curtain Call Performing Arts (CCPA) in San Leandro, California.
