Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces New Conducting Appointments

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is pleased to announce several conducting appointments: Markus Stenz as principal guest conductor, Ken Lam as associate conductor for education, Nicholas Hersh as assistant conductor and Michael Repper as the 2014-2015 season BSO-Peabody conducting fellow.

Fawzi Haimor, assistant conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra since 2012, has been promoted to resident conductor, effective immediately, a title he will share with Lawrence Loh, resident conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony since 2007.

Courtney Lewis Named Assistant Conductor of New York Philharmonic's 2014-15 Season

Courtney Lewis, age 29, has been named New York Philharmonic Assistant Conductor beginning in September 2014. Current Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione, age 31, will be promoted to Associate Conductor, also to begin in September 2014. They will assist Music Director Alan Gilbert and all guest conductors throughout the season, and will lead educational events, including School Day Concerts and Young People's Concerts. Joshua Weilerstein, who has been Assistant Conductor along with Mr. Scaglione since September 2011, will conclude his tenure as Assistant Conductor at the end of the 2013-14 season.

The New York Philharmonic Young People's Concerts (YPCs) continue with a focus on Mozart's Symphony No. 41, Jupiter, led by Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Case Scaglione, today, December 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. This is the second program in this season's series, Points of Entry, in which each concert explores facets of music and the orchestra itself through an influential score. The concert will also feature selections from Mozart's Symphonies Nos. 1 and 33 and his Missa Brevis in F; Pachelbel's Canon; and Arvo Part's Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten.

This is the first program in this season's series, Points of Entry, in which each concert explores facets of music and the orchestra itself through a single, influential score. The performance will feature the Manhattan School of Music Symphonic Chorus, Kent Tritle, director.

Conducting Fellow Alexandra Arrieche to Remain with BSO Through 2013-14 Season

The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) and the Peabody Conservatory announced today that BSO-Peabody Conducting Fellow Alexandra Arrieche will extend her appointment through the 2013-2014 season. Ms. Arrieche began her Fellowship at the start of the 2012-2013 season, receiving a full tuition scholarship to complete a one-year artist diploma program at the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University. Now that Ms. Arrieche has completed her degree, the fellowship has been restructured to include a larger level of commitment to conducting at the BSO.

Tonight, June 28, the Houston Symphony will perform a free concert as part of the ExxonMobil Summer Symphony Nights series at Miller Outdoor Theatre. The concert will feature the famous Romeo and Juliet Overture by Tchaikovsky, followed by popular works from Mendelssohn and Schumann. Led by American conductor Case Scaglione, the concert will also feature pianist Kuok-Wai Lio. Born in Macau, Kuok-Wai has gained worldwide recognition performing with various orchestras and for multiple festivals and competitions. Kuok-Wai will be making his Houston debut performing Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G Minor.

The Solti Foundation U.S. today recognized the talent of five distinguished young American conductors. James Feddeck, Assistant Conductor of The Cleveland Orchestra and Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, is the recipient of the 2013 $25,000 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award. Vladimir Kulenovic, Ankush Kumar Bahl, Roger Kalia, and Christopher James Lees were all named as recipients of Solti U.S. Career Assistance Awards.

Hartt Community Division Presents Ballet SNOW WHITE in June

Bairos, who enjoys an international career as a conductor and educator, makes his LACO debut with this performance.
