TV: Special Screening of PORTLANDIA

The 6-part IFC Original short-based comedy series PORTLANDIA, created, written by and starring Fred Armisen (SNL) and Carrie Brownstein (Sleater-Kinney vocalist/guitarist), premieres on IFC Friday, January 21, 2011 at 10:30 PM ET/PT. Each episode's character-based shorts draw viewers into 'Portlandia,' the creators' dreamy and absurd rendering of Portland, Oregon. PORTLANDIA's inhabitants include, but are not limited to: an organic farmer/cult leader; members of an adult hide and seek league, owners of a feminist book store; a militant bike messenger; and an artsy couple who attach cut-outs of birds to everything. In PORTLANDIA Armisen and Brownstein encounter the bike-riding Mayor of Portland (Kyle MacLachlan), who solicits the duo to write a new theme song for the city. Their City Hall escapades feature a cameo from the real mayor of Portland (Sam Adams) playing the assistant to MacLachlan's mayor.

Museum of the Moving Image Announces Events for Grand Re-Opening, 1/15

Rochelle Slovin, Director of Museum of the Moving Image, today announced further details of the events and programs that will celebrate the grand re-opening of America's only museum dedicated to film, TV and digital media in all their forms. Transformed through a $67 million project, the Museum will open to the public on January 15, 2011, having doubled in size (from 50,000 to 97,700 square feet) and been given striking new physical expression by architect Thomas Leeser.

Starz Picks Up BOSS, Featuring Kelsey Grammer

According to Deadline.com, Starz has picked up the political drama Boss for eight episodes. The show will star La Cage's Kelsey Grammer and will be written by Farhad Safinia. Gus Van Sant will act as executive producer, as well as the director for the series' pilot episode.

In this episode, Jack is bombarded with phone calls, goes to a terrible audition and then has a 'physical' altercation with his agent, Gloria (played by Lusia Strus of Enron, The NY Neo-Futurists, Gus Van Sant's Restless). There are too many women in his life. The episode also features Hannah Bos (Founding Member of The Debate Society), Desiree Burch (The NY Neo-Futurists/The Soup Show), Livia Scott ('Live & Let Livia') and Mary Testa (Xanadu, Guys and Dolls, 42nd Street, On The Town).
