NBC has named veteran film executive Kahli Small to the position of Senior Vice President, Drama Development, it was announced today by Jennifer Salke, President, NBC Entertainment.

The film follows the events of May 1996 on Mount Everest, in which a group of climbers were caught in a deadly snowstorm during summit attempts, which resulted in eight deaths. The year marked Everest's most deadly season.

BAFTA nominee Sam Taylor-Johnson (NOWHERE BOY) will helm the steamy Focus Features and Universal project, beating out Gus Van Sant and Joe Wright, according to Deadline.

The forthcoming Broadway production REAR WINDOW has found its creative team in playwright Keith Reddin(Too Much Memory, Life and Limb) and director Terry Kinney (reasons to be pretty, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest). The play will be adapted from Cornell Woolrich's original short story, the iconic and haunting tale of the wheelchair-bound witness to a possible murder in his neighboring New York City apartment.

USA Network will air Milk as the next film in the quarterly series that builds upon the Characters Unite public service campaign to advance the national dialogue to help combat hate and discrimination and promote greater tolerance and acceptance. With a personal introduction by Emmy(R) Award-winner and activist Neil Patrick Harris, Milk will be featured in commemoration of Pride Month, with limited commercial interruptions, tonight, June 1 at 8/7c.

Brolin joins Joaquin Phoenix, Reese Witherspoon, Martin Short Owen Wilson, and Jena Malone for the film. Sean Penn is also reportedly considering a role.

Celebrating 15 years of fierce and fabulous film, the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival hits the silver screens around Miami and Miami Beach now through May 5, 2013. The highlight of the festival will be a personal appearance by actor-author-director James Franco who will be at the event to accept the HBO Latin America Ally Award for his career accomplishments and his unwavering support of the LGBT community. The Ally Award presentation will take place today, April 27th, at the Olympia Theater at Gusman Center in downtown Miami immediately preceding the film Out In The Dark at 9:15 p.m.

According to The Wrap, Van Sant enlisted rising star Alex Pettyfer to shoot a 'test' sex scene, in order to prove to Universal and Focus just how madly he wants the directing gig. The scene reportedly featured Anastasia Steele losing her virginity to Christian Grey.
