Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Prepares to Wrap Season

The award-winning Weston Playhouse Theatre Company is celebrating the conclusion of a groundbreaking season even as it prepares to announce exciting plans for its 80th anniversary in 2016. Bookended by events that underscore the company's mission to Celebrate the Classics and Nurture the New, the 2015 season was marked by firsts and partnerships that point to a vital future for Vermont's oldest professional theatre.

Vineyard Arts Project Announces FLYING OVER SUNSET Cast

Vineyard Arts Project, a nonprofit performing arts residency center on Martha's Vineyard, has announced the cast and creative team of Flying Over Sunset, a new musical to be developed in residence in August. 

KING LIZ, Starring Karen Pittman, Extends at Second Stage Uptown

Second Stage Theatre 2015 Uptown Series' acclaimed production of KING LIZ has been extended by one week and will now play through Saturday, August 15.  Written by Fernanda Coppel (Chimichangas and Zoloft) and directed by Lisa Peterson, KING LIZ features MICHAEL CULLEN, JEREMIE HARRIS, RUSSELL G. JONES, CAROLINE LAGERFELT, IRENE SOFIA LUCIO and KAREN PITTMAN. 

STAGE TUBE: The Cast of Off-Broadway-Bound INVISIBLE THREAD Will Travel to Uganda

Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' INVISIBLE THREAD, formerly titled WITNESS UGANDA, is headed on the trip of a lifetime before it lands back in the States for its off-Broadway premiere at Second Stage this fall. The cast has surpassed its $45,000 crowdfunding goal and will be traveling to Uganda to connect with the students that inspired the show. Second Stage Theatre continues the 2015 Uptown Series with the World Premiere of King Liz, written by Fernanda Coppel (Chimichangas and Zoloft) and directed by Lisa Peterson. King Liz will feature MICHAEL CULLEN, JEREMIE HARRIS, RUSSELL G. JONES, CAROLINE LAGERFELT, IRENE SOFIA LUCIO, and KAREN PITTMAN. Previews began Monday, July 13th, for opening night tonight, July 27th, 2015.

Jessie Mueller-Led WAITRESS Premiere Kicks Off Rehearsals at A.R.T.; Full Cast Announced!

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University, under the leadership of Artistic Director Diane Paulus, began rehearsals today (pictured, left) for the world premiere musical Waitress. Based on the motion picture written by Adrienne Shelly the new musical has a book by Jessie Nelson, music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles, direction by Diane Paulus, and choreography by Chase Brock.

INVISIBLE THREAD, Previously Titled WITNESS UGANDA, and Kenny Leon-Helmed SMART PEOPLE Set for Second Stage's 2015-16 Season

Second Stage Theatre has announced two New York Premiere productions for its upcoming 37th season.  The season will kick off in fall 2015 with the New York Premiere production of Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews' new musical, INVISIBLE THREAD (previously titled Witness Uganda), in association with American Repertory Theater, directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Finding Neverland, Pippin).  The season will continue in early 2016 with the New York premiere of Lydia R. Diamond's (Stick Fly) critically acclaimed play, SMART PEOPLE, directed by Tony Award Winner Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun, Stick Fly). Two additional productions remain to be announced. 

Weston Playhouse Theatre Company Concludes 8th Annual Artists Retreat

 The Weston Playhouse Theatre Company concluded its 8th annual Artists Retreat with an Artists Salon and Reception at the Wilburton Inn in Manchester, Vermont on Saturday afternoon, May 2.  Actors, composers, directors, and playwrights who had spent the week living and working in Weston spoke about and shared examples from their work before an invited group of theatre patrons.

Hosted by actor Leslie Odom, Jr. (Hamilton, Law & Order: SVU, Person of Interest andSmash), CTH's 15th Anniversary Celebration and Benefit Concert featured the New York premiere of songs from the eagerly anticipated off-Broadway musical Witness Ugandaby Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews. The new Broadway musical An American in Paris is now in previews and just opened last night, April 12, 2015 at the Palace Theatre (Broadway at 47th Street). An American In Paris is directed and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. Inspired by the Academy-Award winning film, An American In Paris brings this classic tale to Broadway for the first time with music and lyrics by George Gershwinand Ira Gershwin and a book by Tony nominee and Pulitzer Prize finalist Craig Lucas. New Musical THE FIRST NOEL and More Set for Classical Theatre of Harlem's 15th Anniversary Season

The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) announces plans for its landmark 2015 season. The Harlem-based American theatre company will present its 15th Anniversary Celebration and Benefit Concert this spring, featuring songs from the eagerly anticipated musical Witness Uganda, winner of the American Academy of Arts and Letters 2014 Richard Rodgers Production Award for Musical Theater; a free summer production of William Shakespeare's The Tempest; and the winter holiday world premiere of a new CTH-commissioned musical, The First Noel.

Rialto Chatter: Jessie Nelson and Sara Bareilles' WAITRESS Musical Coming to Broadway After Run at A.R.T.?

According to a recent post by the A.R.T. the show already has plans for Broadway! The theatre auctioned off tickets to the show's opening night on Broadway as a part of its 2015 gala, teasing: 'See it in Cambridge before it heads to NYC!' Casting has not yet been announced, but a recent NYC workshop was led by Tony winner Jessie Mueller, Keala Settle, Bryce Pinkham, Christopher Fitzgerald, Barrett Wilbert Weed, and Eric Anderson.

STAGE TUBE: Andrew Keenan-Bolger Directs INVISIBLE THREAD Music Video for Matt Gould & Griffin Matthews

Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Tuck Everlasting, Newsies) has released a new music video by composers Matt Gould and Griffin Matthews (Witness Uganda). Gould and Matthews received the Richard Rodgers Award in 2012 and 2014 for their Broadway bound musical, Witness Uganda. The video, Invisible Thread, is part of a fundraising effort for the educational organization, UgandaProject. Check it out below!
