Berkeley Rep Adds ONE MAN, TWO GUVNORS to 2014-15 Season

Today Berkeley Repertory Theatre announced that it has added Richard Bean's internationally acclaimed smash hit One Man, Two Guvnors to its captivating collection of shows for the 2014-15 season. One Man, Two Guvnors is more than a sassy update of Carlo Goldoni's classic knee-slapper, A Servant of Two Masters. Set in 1960's Brighton, England, it's a brilliantly delicious mash-up of splendid comedy, British pantomime, and music-hall revues. The uproarious plot features a disarming and doltish Francis Henshall who finds himself trapped by farce into working for two bosses - who are connected in wildly improbable ways. He just has to keep them from discovering each other. Inspired insanity, high-low antics, and nimble wordplay ensue - all backed by live musicians paying homage to rockabilly and a certain Fab Four. Directed by David Ivers - artistic director of the Utah Shakespeare Festival - One Man, Two Guvnors is a riotous blast complete with a colorful cast of characters in a topsy-turvy world of love triangles and mistaken identities. It previews on Friday May 8, 2015, opens on May 15, 2015, and plays through Sunday June 21, 2015. The Theatre will announce one more subscription season production in the coming weeks.

DRUNK: Letting It Go

I'm currently sat in the auditorium at the beautiful Bridewell theatre watching all the different departments darting around preparing for the imminent technical rehearsal to take place. I am sat in the back corner and I can see everyone. Perhaps the most exciting thing to me is that I am sat in the perfect place to see the excited faces of the dancers as they arrive one at a time and take in the performance space for the first time. It's theirs and they know it.

DRUNK: A Dancer's Perspective

Drunk. Hiccough. We've all been there. Imagine being offered the opportunity of capturing all of these lubricated moments (good and bad) with a super talented, fun-loving company with the ring-leader (director and choreographer) Drew McOnie? I know I was drunk with excitement!

DRUNK: Collaboration

It has long been my belief that the skill of good musical theatre does not hide in the perfect dance step, catchy tune, key change or the haze machine, nor in fact in the vision of any one person. In my opinion, musical theatre is at its core the art of collaboration. The bringing together of ideas that come into existence so fluidly that no one remembers where they came from but all would agree that the heart of their own contribution to the show totally hinges on the very concept.
