The word 'brilliant' is the word that came to mind as I left the Arden Theatre after seeing their production of A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC. Stephen Sondheim wrote the music and lyrics for this musical and Hugh Wheeler wrote the book. The Ingmar Bergman film, SMILE OF A SUMMER NIGHT, inspired this musical. Terrance J. Nolan directs this current production, and the Arden's A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is astounding.

Arden Theatre Company closes its 25th season with A Little Night Music, with music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler. Directed Terrence J. Nolen, A Little Night Music will run on the Arden's F. Otto Haas Stage from May 23 through June 30, 2013.

This new comedy, written during a four-month residency in Philadelphia receives a developmental production on the Arden's Arcadia Stage from tonight, July 5 through July 15, 2012. Arden Theatre Company today announced Wendy MacLeod as the first playwright to take up residence in The Writers' Room, an innovative new play program funded by The Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through the Philadelphia Cultural Management Initiative and the Independence Foundation through its New Theatre Works Initiative. McLeod's unique residency will begin in April 2012 and over a four month period, she will write and rehearse a new play which will run on the Arden's stage July 5-15, 2012.

It's Body Awareness Week at Shirley State College in Vermont. Phyllis, a college professor, is in charge of the festivities and has invited visiting artist Frank to stay in the home she shares with her girlfriend Joyce and Joyce's son Jared. Tensions rise as Phyllis and Joyce try to convince Jared that he may have a psychological disorder all the while Frank's nude photographs of women bring up differing opinions on exhibitionism, sexuality and self-image. The week comes and goes, and at the end we're left with an endearing portrait of a Middle America family working to do the right thing and figure out who they are in the process.
