Regina Taylor to be Honored at Black and Latino Playwrights Conference

Golden Globe award-winning actress and playwright Regina Taylor is this year's recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award at the 14th Annual Texas State Black and Latino Playwrights Conference Sept. 12-18 at Texas State University. A tribute to the native Texan will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall.  

Malibu Playhouse Presents World Premiere of LIFE EXPECTANCY: A COMEDY IN THREE TRIMESTERS

THE MALIBU PLAYHOUSE is thrilled to present a world premiere play, LIFE EXPECTANCY: A COMEDY IN THREE TRIMESTERS, written by Catherine Butterfield and directed by Ron West. LIFE EXPECTANCY: A COMEDY IN THREE TRIMESTERS will preview on Thursday, October 6 & Friday, October 7 and will open on Saturday, October 8 and run through Sunday, October 23 at the Malibu Playhouse, 29243 Pacific Coast Highway, in Malibu.  

Alley All New Expands Reading Series with Martín Zimmerman's On The Exhale

Alley All New continues its offerings with an additional reading - Martin Zimmerman's On The Exhale. The special reading event marks the official launch of the Alley All New Reading Series, an ongoing series featuring new work in various stages of the development process. The reading, directed by Alley's Associate Director James Black, is on Monday, September 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Texas Room at the Alley Theatre. Advance reservations are recommended and can be made at alleytheatre.org or by calling the Box Office at 713-220-5700. The presentation is free and open to the public.

PARACHUTE MEN to Open Teatro Vista's 2016-17 Season

Teatro Vista, Chicago's largest professional Latinx theater company, kicks off its 26th season with the world premiere of Parachute Men, a raw, funny and poignant family drama by Mando Alvarado about three brothers who suck at being brothers, suck at love and suck at being men.

Berkeley Rep Presents the World Premiere of THE LAST TIGER IN HAITI

Berkeley Repertory Theatre today announced the world premiere production of The Last Tiger in Haiti by playwright Jeff Augustin and directed by Joshua Kahan Brody. A co-production with La Jolla Playhouse, where the play had its world premiere in June, The Last Tiger in Haiti begins previews Friday, October 14 and the show runs through Sunday, November 27. Individual tickets start at $29 and can be purchased online at berkeleyrep.org or by phone, 510 647-2949. Press night will be on Friday, October 21.

UNCLE PHILLIP'S COAT Stars Gene Weygandt at Greenhouse Theater Center

The Chicago Premiere of playwright Matty Selman's "Uncle Philip's Coat" will run at the Greenhouse Theater Center (2257 N. Lincoln Ave) Nov. 27 - Dec. 31. Directed by Elizabeth Margoliusand starring Gene Weygandt (best known as The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in "Wicked" in Chicago and on Broadway), "Uncle Philip's Coat" follows Matty on his humorous and heartfelt journey of personal discovery, sparked by his inheritance of a tattered coat from his eccentric Russian-Jewish immigrant uncle Philip.

Jose Rivera to Make Special Appearance at INTAR's THE MAIDS This Fall

INTAR has announced that the 2016-'17 Season will kick off with the world premiere of THE MAIDS by Jose Rivera, adapted from the play by Jean Genet.  Daniel Irizarry directs a cast that features Laura Butler Rivera, Daniel Irizarry, Charlie Munn, Casey Robinson, and Folami Williams with Special Appearance by Jose Rivera (September 29 to October 9th only).

The World Premiere of "I Do Today" will run at the Greenhouse Theater Center (2257 N. Lincoln Ave) Sept. 2 - Oct. 9. Co-produced with The Other Theatre Company, written by Sarah Myers and starring Carin Silkaitis, "I Do Today" will be directed by Greenhouse's Artistic Director Jacob Harvey, making his Chicago directorial debut.   The press opening will be today, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
