The Anybody But Shakespeare Classics Festival Continues Thru 6/6

While William Shakespeare may be one of the greatest playwrights of all time, a theatrical diet of nothing but his works can be too much of a good thing. (re:) Directions Theatre Company remedies this by putting the Bard's oft-overlooked contemporaries front and center during The Anybody but Shakespeare Classics Festival, began May 20th at the 14th Street Theatre, located at 344 East 14th Street, and running through June 6th.

New York Philharmonic Plays Copland, Haydn, et. al. For Memorial Day Concert 5/31

Music Director Alan Gilbert will conduct the New York Philharmonic in his first free Memorial Day Concert, Monday, May 31, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., at The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, Amsterdam Avenue at 112th Street. This will be the 19th annual free Memorial Day Concert offered by the New York Philharmonic, a tradition begun in 1992 as a gift to the people of New York City. Seating is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Music will also be piped out onto the adjacent Pulpit Green, weather permitting.

DC Arts Center Presents Herb White Award to Don Russell 5/13

The bi-annual Herb White Award was created in 2008 to honor the memory of Herb White, who passed away in June 2007 and to pay homage to those who have worked tirelessly, selflessly, without financial reward, at their own expense, and often behind-the-scenes to support artists and encourage arts to flourish in our city.

Murray Guy Gallery Presents Patricia Esquivias, 5/9

On Sunday, May 9 at 3pm, in conjunction with New York Gallery Week, Murray Guy Gallery will host a screening and conversation with Patricia Esquivias and curators Fionn Meade and Manuela Moscoso. This solo exhibition will feature the premiere of two video installations, Folklore III and Natures at the Hand. Both works in the show are promiscuous lectures that wander through images and texts and diverse media, where banal details are transformed into deep reflections on modernity, colonialism, and the natural world.
