William Inge Center for the Arts Welcomes Karen Carpenter as New Interim Artistic Director

Karen Carpenter, a producer, director and teacher, a theater-maker for more than 30 years, has been appointed the interim Artistic Director of the William Inge Center for the Arts and the 34th Annual William Inge Theatre Festival. The Inge Festival is the Official Theater Festival of the State of Kansas, hosted on the campus of Independence Community College, which houses the William Inge archives.

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra Presents BRAHMS's REQUIEM, 10/10-12

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra presents Brahms's Requiem on October 10-12, 2014 at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts. Led by conductor Robert Spano and featuring soprano Jessica Rivera, baritone Nmon Ford, and the Milwaukee Symphony Chorus, the concerts include Brahms's German Requiem and Jennifer Higdon's “river sings a song to trees” from City Scape.

John Leguizamo, Nick Sandow and Merritt Wever Board MEADOWLAND

John Leguizamo, Nick Sandow and Merritt Wever have joined the cast of the Bron Studios drama MEADOWLAND. The film also stars Olivia Wilde, Luke Wilson, Elisabeth Moss, Giovanni Ribisi, Ty Simpkins, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), Mark Feuerstein, Kevin Corrigan and Juno Temple.

Red Bull Theater today announced that their Eleventh Season will include a rare revival of John Ford's 'Tis Pity She's a Whore along with an all new season of their acclaimed Revelation Readings, including Dekker & Middleton's The Honest Whore, Ford's Perkin Warbeck and Love's Sacrifice, Baillie's De Montfort, Ludlam's Camille, Euripides's Hippolytos, Middleton's A Chaste Maid in Cheapside, Calderon's Life Is a Dream, Ibsen's The Wild Duck (a new version by Pulitzer Prize-winner David Auburn), Beaumont & Fletcher's The Maid's Tragedy, Marston's The Dutch Courtesan, Sheridan's The School For Scandal, with casts that include Olympia Dukakis, Hamish Linklater, Lily Rabe, Charlayne Woodard, Brian D'Arcy James, Rocco Sisto, Robert Cuccioli, Charles Busch, Everett Quinton, Arnie Burton, Tom Hewitt, Jennifer Ikeda, Christopher Innvar, Sam Tsoutsouvas, Rebecca Brooksher, Jeremy Shamos, Harris Yulin, Nick Westrate, Carson Elrod, and Jeanine Serralles, among others.

LA Phil Announces 2014-15 Dudamel Fellows

The Los Angeles Philharmonic Association has announced two conductors who will participate in the 2014/15 Dudamel Fellowship Program - Christian Kluxen and Gemma New. Music Director Gustavo Dudamel, together with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, created the Dudamel Fellowship Program in 2009 to provide a unique opportunity for promising young conductors from around the world to develop their craft and enrich their musical experience through personal mentorship and participation in the LA Phil's orchestral, education and community programs.

Seattle Opera's Free Season Kickoff Set for 9/21

Come see what's new and exciting at Seattle Opera this Sunday, Sept. 21 as the company kicks off its 2014/15 season with a free community event from noon to 5:30 p.m. at McCaw Hall. With an exciting roster of upcoming productions—Don Giovanni, Tosca, Semele, and Ariadne auf Naxos—and a new General Director, Aidan Lang, attendees will have much to learn and enjoy at this look behind the curtain. Additionally, unlike past Seattle Opera events geared specifically toward families, the Season Kickoff will allow arts-loving adults the chance to explore and even play.

Comedy Pigs Sets 22nd Season

The Comedy Pigs, Maryland Ensemble Theatre's (MET) hilarious improv troupe are returning for their 22nd season with 26 performances which will include a brand new sketch show. Since the Comedy Pigs debuted in 1993, they have performed over 500 shows including nationwide improv festivals, have been featured on Comedy Central and have been guests at the National Pork Producers Convention. The upcoming 22nd season promises plenty of laughs with some new twists and audience favorites.

Paul Appleby, Andrew Garland Will Join Julia Bullock in VOCE: RISING OPERA STARS IN RECITAL

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Joseph Kaiser will no longer be participating in the Sunday, September 21st performance of Voce: Rising Opera Stars in Recital. Paul Appleby (tenor) and Andrew Garland (baritone) will be joining Julia Bullock (soprano) and pianist, Steven Blier for the afternoon featuring French and American repertories.

Houston Chamber Choir Opens Season at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart Tonight

The Houston Chamber Choir opens its 19th season - 'The Voices of Houston' - with choral works of the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods that were inspired by the allure and breathtaking architecture of San Marco. The preeminent Canadian sackbut and string ensemble ¡Sacabuche! joins the Houston Chamber Choir to kick off the season. Audiences will journey through glorious polychoral and antiphonal works of Andrea and Giovanni Gabrieli, Hans Leo Hassler, Heinrich Schutz, and others, presented at the acoustically superb Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart tonight, September 16th.

BWW Reviews: Opera Australia and John Frost's THE KING AND I

Before Thursday's opening night, Opera Australia and John Frost's revival of the Rodger and Hammerstein classic musical The King and I was already a resounding success following positive reviews during it's run in Melbourne, impressive advanced ticket sales and a Helpmann Award for Best Musical. It was as a result of this hype that I entered the Opera House full of high expectations and ready, no, expecting to be entertained. I was not disappointed.

98.7WFMT Broadcasts the Lyric Opera's 2014-15 Season, Beginning Today

The Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts kick off the 2014-15 season today, Sept. 6 with the live broadcast of the 'Stars of Lyric Opera at Millennium Park' free concert on 98.7WFMT and wfmt.com. The classical station's afternoon drive host Suzanne Nance and Lyric's dramaturg Roger Pines will serve as host and commentator respectively of this season's Lyric Opera of Chicago Broadcasts.

Lyric Opera of Chicago Hosts Costume Sale Today

Lyric Opera of Chicago is having a one-day-only costume sale that's open to the public today, Sept. 6, between 9am and 6pm. Admission to the sale is free, with a suggested donation of $5. There will be a donation box at the entrance.

The Dallas Opera Presents FIRST NIGHT to Kick Off 2014-2015 Season, 10/24

Opening Night of the Season holds the promise of something exciting, awe-inspiring and new! FIRST NIGHT presented by The Dallas Opera offers an evening of spectacular events to kick off the 2014-2015 “Heights of Passion” season with fun and flair. The festivities will begin on the lawn outside of the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. with a red carpet entrance featuring models in custom-designed gowns based on the themes of this season's operas. They continue with a sumptuous black-tie Pre-Performance Dinner at 6:00 p.m., co-chaired by Nancy A. Nasher and David J. Haemisegger and catered by Wolfgang Puck in Sammons Park in a fabulous tent enhanced by décor inspired by the opera. The Dallas Opera's production of The Marriage of Figaro by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a charming comedy, begins at 8:00 p.m. in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House, as well as at Klyde Warren Park where last year's live opening night simulcast attracted thousands!
