LA Master Chorale Celebrates Season with 'Rejoice! Brass Tidings' on 12/13

Blazing brass, majestic pipe organ and soaring voices add sonorous sparkle to the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 'Rejoice! Brass Tidings,' which heralds the season with such classics as Willc*cks' Carols for Brass and Choir, Daniel Pinkham's Christmas Cantata for chorus and double brass, and John Rutter's Gloria, on Sunday, December 13, 2015, 7 pm, at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Conducted by Artistic Director Grant Gershon and featuring 62 Chorale members, the program also includes Shawn Kirchner's Behold New Joy: Ancient Carols of Christmas, composed as a companion piece to Rutter's jubilant opus, Nico Muhly's Senex puerum, Paul Gibson's Rejoice in the Lord Alway and two Christmas motets by Giovanni Gabrieli for double and triple choirs.

LA Opera Presents Vincenzo Bellini's NORMA Tonight

LA Opera's 30th Anniversary Season will include its first performances in nearly two decades of Vincenzo Bellini's Norma, conducted by James Conlon, the company's Richard Seaver Music Director. The production, directed by Anne Bogart, will open tonight, November 21, 2015.

Met Opera to Present Return of LA BOHEME, 11/23

New York, NY (November 11, 2015) – Franco Zeffirelli's production of Puccini's La Bohème, the most-performed opera in Met history, returns to the Met stage on Monday, November 23 for the first of seventeen performances throughout the season. The November and December performances, conducted by Paolo Carignani,will star Barbara Frittoli and Ramón Vargas as the lovers Mimì and Rodolfo, opposite American soprano Ana María Martínez as the spitfire Musetta in her first Met performances since 2005. Romanian baritone Levente Molnár makes his Met debut as the painter Marcello, with Alexey Lavrov as Schaunard, Christian Van Horn as Colline, and John Del Carlo as Benoit and Alcindoro.

Combine a cast as talented as they are attractive with Mozart's brilliant score, and you have a sublime opera experience of poignant comedy. Set in the Italian seaside, the story centers around two couples and one wager - will they be faithful? Two young military officers are confident their girlfriends will remain true to them. Don Alfonso believes otherwise, and unleashes an inventive scheme to find out.
