Canadian Opera Company's Ensemble Studio Recruits Seven New Artists

Toronto –   The Canadian Opera Company Ensemble Studio, Canada's premier training program for young opera professionals, welcomes seven outstanding new artists for the 2016/2017 season: sopranos Danika Lorènand Samantha Pickett, mezzo-sopranos Emily D'Angelo, Lauren Eberwein and Megan Quick, baritone Bruno Roy, and pianist Stéphane Mayer. The seven artists join the Ensemble Studio in August 2016 and become part of an illustrious program that, since its inception in 1980, has launched the careers of over 215 Canadian singers, opera coaches, mainstage directors and conductors.

Toronto Symphony Rings in the New Year with the Mozart@260 Festival

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) rings in the new year in style, celebrating one of the most prolific and beloved composers ever with its annual Mozart Festival. The Mozart@260 Festival -- curated by Quebec-based conductor Bernard Labadie -- includes the famous Symphony No. 40 as part of the popular What Makes It Great? series, a splendid program featuring the Jupiter Symphony and more, and a gripping semi-staged production of the Requiem. The TSO then presents Symphonie fantastique by Berlioz, and welcomes back Canadian soprano Barbara Hannigan for a second time this season.

USA Network Announces Series Pick-Up for FALLING WATER

USA Network announced a series pick-up from executive producers Gale Anne Hurd ('The Walking Dead') of Valhalla Entertainment, Blake Masters ('Brotherhood') and the late Emmy Award-winner Henry Bromell ('Homeland') for the drama, FALLING WATER.

The Florentine Opera to Premiere SISTER CARRIE This Fall

San Francisco Opera Announces 2016-17 Season

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera's Taube Atrium Theater. The Company's 94th Season will also mark Matthew Shilvock's inaugural year as San Francisco Opera's new general director, succeeding his mentor and internationally respected impresario, David Gockley, who will step down on July 31, 2016.

Opera Star Leah Crocetto Featured in CURRAN: UNDER CONSTRUCTION Series, 2/4

Carole Shorenstein Hays announced today that for the next subject of Groundbreakers with Kevin Sessums, the Curran's Editor-at-Large will sit down with award-winning opera star Leah Crocetto, for a special evening titled “Leah Crocetto Talks Opera and Sings Jazz.” Sessums will discuss Crocetto's early years in the New York cabaret scene, her rise to fame in the opera world, and her deep connection to the San Francisco Opera.  Crocetto, who recently opened the SFO's 2015 season with her electrifying performance in the title role of Luisa Miller and made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Liù in Turandot, will perform three numbers throughout the evening.

St. Ann's Warehouse Presents American Premiere of THE LAST HOTEL Tonight

St. Ann's Warehouse will continue the inaugural season in its new waterfront theater with the American Premiere of Irish composer Donnacha Dennehy and writer-director Enda Walsh's thrilling new opera The Last Hotel, in a Landmark Productions / Wide Open Opera production. Singers Claudia Boyle, Robin Adams and Katherine Manley, actor Mikel Murfi, and an ensemble of New York's finest contemporary players, conducted alternately by André de Ridder and Alan Pierson, will deliver this “searingly powerful new chamber work” (The Guardian). Presented by St. Ann's Warehouse and co-presented withPROTOTYPE: Opera/Theatre/Now andIrish Arts Center, The Last Hotel comes to New York after tremendously acclaimed engagements at the Edinburgh International Festival, the Dublin Theatre Festival and the Royal Opera House in London.

Court Theatre Announces Cast of SATCHMO AT THE WALDORF

Court's production of Satchmo will be part of a community-wide Louis Armstrong Festival, happening in partnership with The Beverly Arts Center, The Logan Center at the University of Chicago, The Promontory, South Shore Jazz Coalition, The Louis Armstrong House Museum and the Louis Armstrong Archives at Queens College New York. This community-wide festival will help audiences deepen their understanding of Armstrong's life through musical performances, historical exhibits, symposium, talk-backs and film.
