Amore Opera Presents MADAMA BUTTERFLY, Now thru 5/25

This spring, Amore presents Madama Butterfly by Giacomo Puccini (1858-1924) in a JapaneseKabuki inspired production. Conducted by Douglas Martin with stage direction by Nathan Hull, Madama Butterfly opens tonight, May 9, at The Connelly Theater in New York City and runs for twelve performances through May 25, 2014.

Sarasota Opera Announces Expansion of 'HD at the Opera House' Series

Sarasota Opera is pleased to announce the expansion of its new broadcast and film series called 'HD at the Opera House'. This new series is allowing Sarasota Opera to expand its programming from the fall and winter season to year-around. In addition to opera, the series will include ballet and theater from some of the world's most famous venues. All showings will occur in the William E. Schmidt Opera Theatre at the Sarasota Opera House.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra Joins Andrea Bocelli in Concert at Joe Louis Arena, 12/14

The internationally acclaimed Detroit Symphony Orchestra will join legendary tenor Andrea Bocelli in concert at Joe Louis Arena on Sunday, December 14 at 7:30 p.m. Bocelli will also be joined by conductor Eugene Kohn, soprano Maria Aleida, featured violinist Caroline Campbell and guest artist and Tony Award-winner Heather Headley.

Today in 1991, Miss Saigon opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 4092 performances. Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The musical premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London on 20 September 1989, closing after over four thousand performances, on 30 October 1999.The musical represented Schonberg and Boublil's second major success, following Les Miserables in 1985.

Michael McDonald Performs in Concert With Pacific Symphony Pops, Now thru 3/15

Five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and keyboardist Michael McDonald lends his husky, soulful baritone to Pacific Symphony Pops for a concert featuring hits from his chart-topping career spanning more than four decades. From his 1970s beginnings singing back-up vocals with American rock band Steely Dan on songs including 'Black Friday,' to enhancing the funky R&B sound of The Doobie Brothers, to his award-winning solo career, McDonald has established himself as a timeless yet distinctive artist in pops music.
