Boston Landmarks Orchestra Sets Free Summer 2015 Concerts

Inspired by the musical connection of people, place, and culture, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, under the direction of Music Director Christopher Wilkins, announces the 2015 summer's free concerts at the DCR's Hatch Shell. Free concerts will be held every Wednesday evening (7 p.m.) beginning July 15 thru August 26, 2015. Neighborhood concerts and youth engagement residencies featuring Brazilian composer, pianist and vocalist Clarice Assad continue throughout the summer beginning on July 12 (6 p.m.) at Pinebank Promontory in Jamaica Plain and through August 14 at John F. Today in 1996, Rent opened at the Nederlander Theatre, where it ran for 5123 performances. Rent is a rock musical with music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson based on Giacomo Puccini's opera La boheme. It tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in New York's Lower East Side in the thriving days of Bohemian Alphabet City, under the shadow of HIV/AIDS.On Broadway, Rent gained critical acclaim and won a Tony Award for Best Musical among other awards. The Broadway production closed on September 7, 2008 after a 12-year run.

Cast Set for 64th Wexford Festival Opera

Artistic Director David Agler today announced the cast for the main evening operas in the forthcoming Wexford Festival, opening Wednesday, 21 October. A mixture of new and familiar voices makes up the 64-member company, comprising 20 principal roles, 32 chorus-members and 10 dancers. They hail from several different countries, including Ireland, Britain, South Africa, Canada, US, France, Italy, Australia and Malta. When including the creative teams, production team, orchestra and crew, the full company of this year's Festival is likely to be in excess of 200.

Today in 1991, Miss Saigon opened at the Broadway Theatre, where it ran for 4092 performances. Miss Saigon is a musical by Claude-Michel Schonberg and Alain Boublil, with lyrics by Boublil and Richard Maltby, Jr. It is based on Giacomo Puccini's opera Madame Butterfly, and similarly tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The musical premiered at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London on 20 September 1989, closing after over four thousand performances, on 30 October 1999.The musical represented Schonberg and Boublil's second major success, following Les Miserables in 1985.

FGO Welcomes Award-Winning Conductor Anthony Barrese for THE PEARL FISHERS, Beginning Today

?Anthony Barrese, award-winning conductor and composer, arrived in Miami yesterday to begin conducting rehearsals for Florida Grand Opera's (FGO) upcoming production of Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fishers (Les pecheurs de perles). Barrese makes his company debut conducting this French masterpiece not even two weeks after the close of FGO's well-received production of Mozart's comic opera Cosi fan tutte. The Pearl Fishers will open today, February 28, at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts.

Vancouver Opera Releases Complete Schedule for 2015-2016 Season

Vancouver, BC ~ A powerful and current Canadian premiere, two favourites of grand opera and a modern classic of musical theatre are highlights of Vancouver Opera's 56th season.
