Annual MAY FESTIVAL Kicks Off 5/19 with Beethoven's Ninth Symphony

The annual Cincinnati May Festival kicks off next week on Friday, May 19 at the Taft Theatre in downtown Cincinnati. The choral festival, the oldest of its kind on the continent, will incorporate choral masterpieces performed by the May Festival Chorus and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (CSO) alongside world-renowned guest conductors and soloists, as well as an immersive new concert experience dubbed "The Dream Project" curated by 2017 May Festival Creative Partner Gerard McBurney. The Adelphi Orchestra to Perform Ravel in AT THE BALLET

On Sunday April 2nd, the Adelphi Orchestra will share the stage with the Roxey Ballet company and the Studio 691 Dance company in 'At the Ballet' an afternoon program of classical music and dance, where dancers and musicians alike pay homage to classical music's finest works created for the dance.

Festival d'Aix-en-Provence Announces 2017 Detailed Season

Cincinnati May Festival Names New Principal Conductor

Following an extensive, global search, the Cincinnati May Festival announced Juanjo Mena as the Principal Conductor for three years starting in the 2017-18 season. He will lead two performances at the 2018 May Festival and begins duties as the Principal Conductor Designate immediately.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Presents FRENCH REVERIES & PASSIONS FESTIVAL, 5/3-24

Guest conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) in three weeks of programs that focus on symphonic and operatic repertoire by Ravel, Debussy and Messiaen, as part of the French Reveries & Passions festival, which begins May 3. In addition to three CSO programs, the three-week festival also includes recitals by two young French pianists, an evening of jazz by French artists, chamber music performed by CSO musicians and the CSO's Judson and Joyce Green Creative Consultant Yo-Yo Ma, a performance by the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and a public discussion between the CSO's Creative Director of Beyond The Score® Gerard McBurney and the Art Institute of Chicago's David and Mary Winton Green curator and Impressionist expert Gloria Groom.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Presents Its Spring Festival, TRUTH TO POWER, 5/19-6/8

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) presents its annual spring festival from May 19 to June 8, 2014, which this year is entitled Truth to Power. Inspired by the phrase "speaking truth to power"-part of a 1955 Quaker treatise that outlined alternatives to violence and served as a cornerstone for the pacifist movement-the Truth to Power Festival highlights the works of Dmitri Shostakovich, Benjamin Britten and Sergei Prokofiev, three composers who believed in music's ability to connect people and thus harness the power of shared experience.

Governor and First Lady Patrick to Celebrate Berkshire Culture at MADE IN THE BERKSHIRES, 10/11-13

Governor Deval L. Patrick and First Lady Diane B. Patrick will serve as Honorary Chairs of the 2013 Made in the Berkshires festival. The 'locally grown' arts festival is held on Columbus Day Weekend, October 11-13 and features new works in drama, dance, music, film, readings, and visual art. Now in its third year, Made in the Berkshires presents artists, writers, and performers who share a common connection with the region.

L.A. Philharmonic Releases Shostakovich Album Today, 6/19

The Los Angeles Philharmonic continues its collaboration with Deutsche Grammophon with the new release of two works by Shostakovich - the world premiere of the Prologue to Orango and Symphony No. 4. Both works, led by LA Phil Conductor Laureate Esa-Pekka Salonen, were recorded live at Walt Disney Concert Hall in December of 2011. The 2-disc set will be available as of today, June 19, 2012.
