Olivier?Award-winning OperaUpClose's new version of Georges Bizet's?Carmen, in a new English libretto by Ben Cooper, accompanied by piano and Spanish guitar, will be directed by Rodula Gaitanou, a recent Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artist.

Luna Negra Dance Theater continues its season this spring with a World Premiere by Artistic Director Gustavo Ramirez Sansano titled CARMEN.maquia, a Picasso-inspired, contemporary take on the famous, fiery and flirtatious Spanish gypsy, Carmen. This work marks Luna Negra's first-ever full evening-length production and is a creative collaboration between three prize-winning artists: choreographer Sansano, Spanish fashion designer David Delfin and set designer Luis Crespo. Luna Negra presents CARMEN.maquia in one performance only at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive, Saturday, March 24 at 8 pm.

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the Festival's line-up, which runs from July 5 through August 5, 2012. Single tickets go on sale on April 2. Theater offerings include Mikhail Baryshnikov in Dmitry Krymov's staging of a new play, In Paris, as well as Sydney Theatre Company's acclaimed production of Uncle Vanya directed by Tamas Ascher and adapted by Andrew Upton. The stellar cast includes John Bell, Cate Blanchett, Hayley McElhinney, Richard Roxburgh, and Hugo Weaving.

The Dallas Opera Guild's 24th Annual Vocal Competition for young opera singers ended on a high-note last evening when ten outstanding finalists (with Texas connections) were awarded a total of $20,000 in prize monies. New York City Ballet announced today that its 2012 Spring Gala on Thursday, May 10 will feature a one-time-only salute to France titled À La Francaise, and will feature two World Premiere ballets, one by NYCB's Ballet Master in Chief Peter Martins to a score by the French composer Marc-Andre Dalbavie; and one by French-born choreographer and former NYCB Principal Dancer Benjamin Millepied to a commissioned score by Nico Muhly. The evening will also include a major revival of George Balanchine's Symphony in C, which was created for the Paris Opera Ballet in 1947 to a score by the French composer Georges Bizet.
