Steve Rudolph and Tim Warfield to Perform at Ware Center, 10/17

Two of the area's most highly acclaimed jazz musicians, pianist Steve Rudolph and saxophonist Tim Warfield, will headline a night of cabaret-style entertainment Friday, Oct. 17, at the Ware Center of Millersville University in Lancaster, to kick off the season's 'Jazz in the Sky' concert series at the Ware Center. The concert, which starts at 7:30 p.m., will take place in the Ware Center's newly renamed Owen Salon, and is being dedicated to the late Keith Mohler, who had been a fixture in Lancaster's jazz scene and past programmer of three years of the 'Jazz in the Sky' concert series.

Lincoln Center Announces OUT OF DOORS 2014 Summer Festival Lineup; Runs 7/20-8/10

The schedule for this summer's Lincoln Center Out of Doors festival, which runs from July 20 to August 10, was announced today by Bill Bragin, Lincoln Center's Director of Public Programming. Nearly 100 free performances will take place across the plazas of Lincoln Center during three weeks. A special Memorial Concert for Pete and Toshi Seeger on July 20 will be followed by the official opening concert on July 23 with Larry Harlow's Hommy: A Latin Opera, the landmark work's first performance in 40 years. Trinity Rep announced today that former artistic director and Academy-award nominated film, stage and TV actor Richard Jenkins and his wife Director/Choreographer Sharon Jenkins will be honored with the 2014 Pell Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Arts. The theater also announced that nationally known dance educator and choreographer Mary Paula Hunter will receive the 2014 Charles Sullivan Award for Distinguished Service in the Arts. The 18th annual Pell Awards will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Trinity Rep with a reception to follow next door at the Providence Public Library.

Trumpeter/vocalist Bria Skonberg was inspired by Louis Armstrong. Alto saxophonist Tia Fuller was influenced by Cannonball Adderley. On Sunday, March 30 at 3 pm, at the Mayo Performing Arts Center, they will present a groundbreaking concert with no musical borders in a concert presented by the New Jersey Jazz Society. In celebration of the 60th anniversary of the world-renowned Newport Jazz Festival (August 1-3, 2014), the 'Newport Jazz Festival: Now 60' Tour makes a stop in New York City at the Jazz Standard, 116 East 27th Street, March 4-8. Featuring clarinetist/saxophonist Anat Cohen, vocalist/pianist Karrin Allyson, bassist Ben Allison, pianist Peter Martin, guitarist Mark Whitfield, trumpeter Randy Brecker and drummer Clarence Penn, the band has been receiving rave reviews since it kicked off a 17-city tour on February 8 in Atlanta. The first leg of the tour winds down March 30 and will continue with more dates during June, July and August in North America and Europe (including a set at its namesake festival on August 2).

Castillo is running a 45-day global fundraising campaign at Kickstarter.com to raise $50,000 to begin shooting her feature-length documentary film, NIGHT BIRD SONG: THE THOMAS CHAPIN STORY this summer. The shoot locations will include the New York City area, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Europe. The Kickstarter campaign was launched on February 13, and will end on March 31.
