BWW Reviews: RADIO MAN, A New Play by Garrison Keillor, Captures Everything You Love About A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION and More
by Jill Schafer - Oct 3, 2014

Full disclosure: I'm a huge fan of Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion. He's the Mark Twain of our generation, and is Minnesota's best export. If A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION is one of the things that Minnesota is most known for, I am proud to be a Minnesotan. So of course, I absolutely love his new play RADIO MAN, the first he's written. I saw a reading of it early this year as part of the History Theatre's Raw Stages festival and loved it then, but this full production, now playing at the History Theatre, is so much more polished and complete, and really a thing unto itself and not just an episode of A Prairie Home Companion on stage. Yes there is the familiar music, the jingles for Powdermilk Biscuits, rhubarb pie, and ketchup, stories from Lake Wobegon, and beloved characters including Dusty and Lefty and Guy Noir. But there's also a story and a character (the host of a radio show called A PRAIRIE HOME COMPANION who bears a striking resemblance to Garrison) who we get to know as he reminisces about his past and contemplates his future.

BWW Interviews: Suzanne Bradbeer Talks Religion, Politics, and THE GOD GAME
by Katricia Lang - Aug 26, 2014

Tom, a charismatic, Republican candidate on the rise is asked to enhance his non-existent religious beliefs to further his political career, which seems an easy enough task for a politician. But, Lisa, his deeply religious wife doesn't think it's so ethical or respectful of her beliefs. How does this human and political drama unfold? You'll have to see the play. But, until then, take a look at the discussion I had with author of the play Suzanne Bradbeer.

The Bush Dilemma Has The Art World's Panties in a Bunch
by Barry Kostrinsky - Apr 11, 2014

The art world has its panties in a bunch. George Bush has entered some hallowed halls through a side door. Powerful teams of married art writers are reviewing his painted portraits of world leaders he met while playing president. Lady Gaga and Jay-Z were allowed in at the top of the art world for a day. Her pop fame and costumes and his good looks, money and past rap edge were enough to get them in and after all they were already in the music world: that suburb just down the block from the art world. Zimmerman entered the art world through the prison gates, the only pain less prison backdoor I can imagine. But George W Bush came in through a White house back door quite unlike the one JFK slipped in and out of in his day.

Black Mondays: Worst Decisions of the Supreme Court (4th Edition) is Released
by Christina Mancuso - Mar 5, 2014

Updated 'Black Mondays: Worst Decisions of the Supreme Court' Published Hard Cover: ISBN 978-0-9814510-6-0, $45.00 Paperback: ISBN 978-0-9814510-8-4, $20.00 Ebook/iBook: $9.95 Inprint Books announced the publication of the revised and significantly updated 'Black Mondays: Worst Decisions of the Supreme Court (Fourth Edition)' by Joel D. Joseph. Justice Thurgood Marshall wrote the foreword for the first edition and it is included in this edition as well. The author found, 'The worst decision in recent history was Bush v. Gore in which the Supreme Court enacted a judicial coup d'état, installing George Bush as President of the United States, overruling Florida and Congress.' Florida was not allowed to finish the counting of the ballots even though the Supreme Court ruled that prior counting violated the Constitution of the United States. Joseph added, 'And by the way the Twelfth Amendment to the Constitution specifically provides that Congress shall count the votes of the presidential electors. If two competing slates of presidential electors from one state are presented to Congress, Congress, not the United States Supreme Court, decides which slate of electors are counted.' In 2008, President George W. Bush signed the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Amendments into law that gave Chief Justice Roberts the power to appoint all members of the FISA Court without Senate confirmation. Concerning government spying, the Supreme Court has ruled that the ACLU does not have standing to challenge the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, thus allowing virtually unlimited surveillance by the government. In recent years, the Supreme Court has taken charge of gun control, video-game violence, campaign finance and class actions. It has taken power from States and cities and given them to corporations. 'Corporations are people,' the Court has announced, allowing unlimited corporate involvement in political campaigns. Corporations can now dictate that disputes with customers are settled in arbitration, not in court. The Supreme Court has ruled that these arbitrations cannot be class arbitrations overriding State law and individual rights. Mr. Joseph blames the Supreme Court for overturning laws that regulated violent video games and limited gun control laws. 'The Supreme Court ruled that California could not limit sales of violent video games to minors. Two of the mass shooters of this past year, Adam Lanza in Newtown, Connecticut and James Holmes in Aurora, Colorado, were violent video game addicts who acted out their fantasies in real life. The Court has blood on its hands, particularly Justice Scalia, who found that there is not connection between violent video games and actual violence.' The Supreme Court is now the center of controversy for gun control, voters' rights, civil rights, consumer rights, privacy and access to justice. This book will be the subject of many talk shows from coast to coast. The author will tour major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Boston and Cleveland. BWW Reviews: Colin Quinn - Fast, Furious and Funny
by Anya Sebastian - Feb 11, 2014

In an age of 30 second sound bites and attention deficit disorder, keeping an audience engaged and entertained for a non-stop 70 minutes is quite an achievement, And when a subject as dry as the US Constitution provokes regular gales of laughter throughout, the performer is clearly not your average, run-of-the-mill comedian.
