Pear Theatre to Open THE MOUNTAINTOP in January

Pear Theatre continues its 2015/2016 season with the two-person, Olivier Award-winning play from Katori Hall, THE MOUNTAINTOP. Deeply moving, THE MOUNTAINTOP creatively imagines the last night in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, set in Memphis in April, 1968. King meets the attractive, spunky motel maid Camae, who arrives to provide room service - but we soon discover she is no ordinary chambermaid. The production features Michael Wayne Rice as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and Nathalie Autumn Bennett as Camae. Preview night is January 14th; Press and Opening Night is January 15th, with a champagne gala following the show. The run continues through January 31. All performances are held at the Pear Theatre's new space at 1110 La Avenida St., Mountain View. For tickets ($10-$35) and information the public may visit www.thepear.org or call (650) 254-1148.

BWW Reviews: INTIMATE APPAREL Worn Close to the Heart

INTIMATE APPAREL is one woman's story of courage and resilience set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing America in early 20th century New York City. Under the direction of Summer L. Williams, who also directed Lynn Nottage's BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK at the Lyric Stage Company, INTIMATE APPAREL offers a realistic depiction of the human drama inherent in the journeys of half a dozen individuals who have more in common than it first appears.

BWW Review: INTIMATE APPAREL is Great Show with a Spirit of Excellence

I want to applaud the theatre companies who pay homage to black playwrights. We're allowed to examine the psyche and social situations from the black perspective through these theatrical masterpieces. I had the pleasure of seeing The Pearl Theater's production of INTIMATE APPAREL written by Lynn Nottage, and I was moved by the seamless writing and performances by the cast.

BWW Reviews: Stray Dog Theatre's Excellent Production of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE

Dame Agatha Christie is considered to be one of the most successful authors of all time, with her mystery novels and short stories selling literally millions of copies. In fact, her work has been produced on stage, in films, and on television. Additionally, a lot of the basic ideas and plots have been utilized in countless mediums. But, despite this proliferation, they still remain clever and entertaining in their own right. Stray Dog Theatre's current production of AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is a prime example, combining a great cast, stylish appointments, and solid direction to provide audiences with a terrific experience that's well worth seeing, even if you've been exposed to this, or similar works, before.

BWW Reviews: INTIMATE APPAREL in Westport

The 10th anniversary revival of Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage's play, Intimate Apparel, is closing the Westport Country Theatre's regular season on, well, a very strong thread.

Deep in the Bavarian forest, archaeologists unearth a medieval human skull with a brick stuffed in its mouth. When Annja Creed catches wind of the strange discovery, the TV host and archaeologist rushes to join the dig. But the superstitious locals are furious, fearing the excavation has angered one of the chewing dead—those who rise from their graves to feast on human flesh and blood.
