Happy New Year, BroadwayWorld! As we eagerly anticipate the amazing musicals and plays coming up in 2017, we're taking a moment to look back at the significant Broadway closings of 2016.

Finding Neverland is based off the Oscar winning film starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet. It tells the story of J.M. Barrie (Kevin Kern), a playwright who is seeking inspiration to write his next play. The problem, there are no ideas flowing. One day, in a park in London, Barrie sees four boys playing and they spark his interest. He has forgotten to use his imagination to write. The boys introduce Barrie to their mother Sylvia (Christine Dwyer), and as Barrie's marriage starts to fall to pieces, he grows romantic feelings for Sylvia. All the while, Barrie gets the inspiration to write his next big hit - "Peter Pan."

This would be a very good show based solely on the book (James Graham) and music (music and lyrics by Gary Barlow and Eliot Kennedy) that it features, but it goes far beyond that in conjuring up an absolutely remarkable theatrical experience. Based on THE MAN WHO WAS PETER PAN, by Allan Knee, as well as the eponymous motion picture, this is a marvelously cast, tune-filled excursion into the imagination of J.M. Barrie. It's really a must-see show, so catch it while you can!

Gary Barlow and Tim Firth's new British musical, THE GIRLS, based on the true story, the film and the award-winning play by Tim Firth, Calendar Girls, will open in London's West End at the Phoenix Theatre, with performances from 28 January 2017.  Tickets are on sale from 12.00noon today, Friday 16 September 2016.  The West End premiere follows sold-out runs at the Grand Theatre Leeds and the Lowry Salford late 2015/early 2016.  In the West End, the producers have made a commitment to there being no 'premium-rated' seats, no booking fees and reduced price previews. 

Finding Neverland, the enchanting Broadway musical set to soar on tour this fall, began rehearsals under the visionary direction of Tony Award-winner Diane Paulus. After 33 previews and 565 performances, the Broadway production of Finding Neverland takes its final trip to Neverland today. Original cast member, Jonathan Ritter, who has been with the production since its out-of-town tryout at the American Repertory Theater, posted a goodbye video on YouTube for fans of the show.
